catboss,

I use OpenBoard most of the time and it's good if you are more privacy focused.

loadsas,

Is it possible with this keyboard to swipe instead of type?

AlexPewMaster,

If you install a fork of it with that feature, yes. I personally use this fork: github.com/erkserkserks/openboard

bigoofn,

Same. Except i had to modify it a little bit because I got used to Swift keyboard having suggestions on inputs that don't support it by default.

Jomn,

Same here. It works well, and it actually was the only FOSS keyboard for which I managed to properly set up a Bépo layout like I wanted.

I'm still waiting for someone to fork Minuum Keyboard

bbigras,

Unexpected keyboard when using termux.

random_character_a,

Just the other day I discovered 8Vim and I'm exited to learn how to use it. It's a little buggy and it doesn't seem to support umlaut letters, so I can't use it for my native language.

Others I use are Hackers keyboard (for SSH), Anysoft, and Jbak. Not sure if the last one is FOSS.

Vanilla GrapheneOS keyboard as per their guide.

SkullHex2, (edited )

I'm using AnySoftKeyboard but I'm not completely satisfied.. suggestions are a bit annoying, especially when corrections occur after puntuation, and they only apply to the currently selected language. Also, the only dark theme with hint keys support basically requires the eyes of an eagle to tell hints apart

I use FlorisBoard

jumanjimanju,

Second this. Tried a lot of keyboards when moving over to foss, and this one felt hands down the best for me.

kylian0087,

Totally agree. You can customize it a load. It has a ton of functions even local spellchecking once setup

Thrasybulus,

I was following this for a while but see it hasn't received an update in a year now, is it abandoned?

Fisch,
@Fisch@lemmy.ml avatar

Development is still active, there just hasn't been a new release yet.

Thrasybulus,

A year is a long time to go without an update especially when so many features are still missing. If I recall previously the app was seeing very regular releases. Doesn't inspire much confidence in the project, although I hope im mistaken as i think it has a lot of potential.

Fisch,

There's a beta version that gets regular updates

I use AnySoftKeyboard, configuring it is a mess but it's super customizable and one it's set up it's great.

musaoruc,

I use AnySoft Keyboard. It is very configurable and has a lot of language options.

loadsas,

I use https://github.com/rkkr/simple-keyboard because it has the features "hold space and swipe to move cursor" and "hold backspace and swipe to delete". You can add different languages. Which Android do you use? I'm curious because doesn't any keyboard (android) allow you to switch languages?

BlastboomStrice,
@BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz avatar

I'd probably use it already if it supported emojies...

nobloat,

I am on Android 13. Thanks I'll give it a try!

burgersc12,

I prefer this Simple Keyboard over that Simple Keyboard

thisn,

+1 for simple-keyboard

Another one that i use is Florisboard. It also supporta hold space and hold backspace. Additionally you can customize the layout and glide typing is available for english
