Hard to describe. If you are fluent in tropical fruits they are similar to cherimoya which is a relative. Otherwise… banana mango is something I’ve heard but isn’t quite accurate. They are their own thing! They are very soft and messy to eat and have large seeds though.
Depends on the area. Yes look along creeks and rivers. The plant is not usually super rare but finding enough fruit sometimes can be. They like shade but only produce well if they get enough sun. Best areas I’ve seen are near bigger rivers where they get plenty of water and there is lots of sun coming from the river side.
Yeah, I got kinda lucky that it’s happening in Ohio the weekend after I move there. I’ve never tried a pawpaw before since they only grow in Appalachia and I’ve lived most of my life in the Intermountain West. I’ve really wanted to try them ever since I found out they exist!
