Yeah I’m sure I’ve hear the figure of 10% as the “expected” level based on studies looking at animals other than humans. At least it means we seem to be approaching a time when people don’t feel the need to hide it, which has to be a positive step.
And everybody should support it. I’m a straight man. I most certainly wouldn’t want a female partner who was with me solely because she needs to show as straight when she isn’t. That’s patently unfair to everybody.
Love who you want to love without regret or shame.
Gay/bi/trans/queer/whatever neighbors, coworkers, friends, authority figures, whatever. That has absolutely fuck all nothing effect on me.
I’ll like or dislike any given person on their character, not how they enjoy getting their nether regions tickled. And to that, I’ll add that I’ve known some gay people who can absolutely go pound sand. That’s based solely on shitty behavior as it would be with anybody. It is entirely unrelated to orientation.
Edit: I like Lemmy because I find myself seeing communities such as this one that wouldn’t have shown up on Reddit. To me, it encourages communication among people in different demographics, and if I say something egregiously ignorant, it gives me opportunity to learn and grow.
If I understand the article, this calls out more of the history and not just a recognition of. I’m sure that comes off sounding like an ass and I welcome any clarification to my understanding.
The legislation cites California’s long-ranging significance in trans history, starting with Spanish colonizers’ “suppression of gender variance” among indigenous people, which the resolution says was “a foundational event of the history of the state.” It also cites the Stonewall precursor Compton’s Cafeteria Riot, Lou Sullivan’s trailblazing activism on behalf of trans men, and the establishment of the Transgender District in San Francisco in 2017, among many other events.
“California has long been the epicenter of the trans liberation movement,” the resolution reads. “Supporting the transgender community by designating August as Transgender History Month will create a culture led by research, education, and scholarly recognition of the contributions of transgender Californians to our great state’s history, and will educate future generations of Californians on the importance of this history.”
June is pride, which covers the LGBTQ+ spectrum but is usually mostly focused on gay people in terms of who gets the most attention/consideration/etc at least in the media, and isn’t specifically about the history of LGBTQ+ people. Trans people have been targeted a lot lately, so imo a history month is a good idea for helping to normalize their existence and spread awareness about their history (which a lot of people aren’t aware of, a lot of people think that being trans is just a recent trend which isn’t true).
There are a lot of things I disagree with. There are basically none that I would be willing to kill over. I could not imagine how hate filled this person had to be.
I’ve had friends who were generous with me and that gave me such a heart-warming feeling. It doesn’t have to be much, like it can just give a compliment or offering a piece of gum. It’s the thoughtfulness and consideration that counts. At least, that’s who I try to be whenever I can.
“Perceived transphobia” Lmfaooo. It’s THE defining characteristic of that sub, and it’s exactly why I left. Every single week they had some post that blew up with some stupid-ass question or statement about trans folks and they just kept posting the same shit over and over again, getting testy with anyone who said something positive or welcoming. And no, it had nothing to do with trans men wanting a space there. It was allegedly cis gay men being up in arms for one petty reason or another. I’m almost convinced that it’s a concerted effort to get everyone behind an agenda because I remember when it started. There’s no sensible explanation to the extent and frequency of the transphobic posts. And what’s crazy to me is that this happened 2 years since I left.
People in the US can check here to see if their local waste water facility has detected mpox during water treatment. The map doesn’t cover everywhere but it covers a lot of major metro areas.
Stay safe and remember that mpox not being detected in your local waste water is NOT the same as nobody local having it!
When I was in my 20s I watched this documentary on The Castro which really hit me hard at the time. It’s pretty fascinating to see how the gay community was and how it is there. It’s also kind of sad to see all the people who survived the AIDs epidemic, and multiple tech waves only to leave as a result of the covid pandemic.
It feels like we’ve lost a lot of our culture. But hopefully things will start moving in the other direction.
Heteronormativity was the nail in the coffin for our culture. When they homogenized us with legalized marriage they sterilized all the things that made our communities unique.
First step to being an ally is refusing to support politicians doing nothing to extend protections to the trans community despite other politicians actively creating harm.
