Good luck with that. I don’t like deepfakes, but I have zero confidence that they can be effectively banned without unintended consequences.

Ranger,

There’ll be unintended consequences & they’ll fail to stop it.

JJROKCZ,

Should be counted the same as revenge porn imo. That said, banning something doesn’t make it go away. Stuff like this will prove extremely difficult to ban if you can just download a piece of software and have it make all the images you could ever want

hperrin,

IMO, sharing a fake nude should have the same consequences as sharing a real nude without permission. It should fall under the revenge porn laws if it doesn’t already.

Streisand effect much?

What Streisand effect? The deep fakes went viral because of all the right-wingers pushing them, they got an official response by exTwitter and made headlines for days now.

Well assuming you know what the Streisand effect is, I expect any action to limit the spread of such images to backfire.

Assuming that you aren’t attempting to reverse the roles of victims and perpetrators, you should know that people actively spreading vile shit is not what the Streisand effect is about and one does not stop people from spreading vile shit by staying mum about it.

Once again, assuming that you aren’t just trying to make up excuses for the right-wingers who are spreading this.

I’m not doing any of those things, and it’s kinda fuckin insane I have to spell that out for you.

just pointing out that calling attention to a thing you want to stop being shared publicly is sure to encourage more sharing, as was the case with pictures of Barbara Streisand’s house she had for sale. (Hence the Streisand effect).

Insult me all you want. Here is the Wikipedia article for the Streisand effect. The sharing of pics only happened after Streisand sued the photographer of the house, because the lawsuit attracted attention to the fact that a photograph of her house existed online.

Actively spreading hateful materials online is an entirely different thing and has nothing to do with the Streisand effect. Unless you want to blame the victims of a hate campaign for the success of the hate campaign.

Can you pull your head out of that anus and stop acting like I’m defending this predatory bs and not just inferring how this event will unfold based on previous experiences?

I’m not victim blaming. I’m not defending anyone. I’m suggesting how this will likely unfold.

MrCookieRespect,

Because banning something makes it impossible…

Its already illigal to do that when its used like that.
