Were Saka and ESR (as some examples) already playing regular first team football by 20?
I think they got lucky the squad was struggling and had injuries. But the same could be said of Mainoo, Quansah, and many others.
As I’ve seen/heard others mention, dropping out of some of the cup games so early and the pressures performing in CL and the chance for a PL trophy has pretty much killed off any chance to give some of the younger talent a chance.
Kinda like that old quote of like, luck meets preparation, I think. Alternate world where Patino’s starting every game for the past two seasons and no Nwaneri chasing his heels, who knows what woulda happened.
Very true. With us pushing to remain competitive, I could see it becoming even harder for youngsters to push their way into the team. There will be cup games and such, but I’d say they will be looking to bring in players externally to make a more immediate impact.
I could be wrong and I hope I am. It sucks to lose a prospect and have them shine for another team. But it could be he doesnt fit the system anyway. If he does leave though, I wish him all the best
Will be disappointing to see him go as he’s very talented. But I can’t really blame him. Not only have his loan spells not really worked out (through no fault of his own), but there are a fair few ahead of him in our attacking midfield roster - Odegaard, Rice, Smith Rowe, Vieira, plus Havertz if we bring in a more conventional forward in the summer.
