NigelFrobisher,

This is the only meme format used on LinkedIn, but they really like it.

ILikeBoobies,

This doesn’t make sense, they get more data from Valve/you even having the game installed than they do for having an account you only use in 1 game

Worried about the email?

DoucheBagMcSwag,

I wonder if Sony is considering making an offer to buy arrowhead and wants the engagement data before doing this.

I know there was a definite rumor that they were already acquired which was false but I think that this idea may be in the cards.

They probably do not want Microsoft getting it

RGB3x3,

If Microsoft wanted it, they could so easily out-bid Sony. MS is on another level when it comes to disposable money and revenue. And I’m sure MS has their eyes on Helldivers because of its success.

So it’d be in Sony’s best interest to acquire the studio as quickly as they can.

I bought Sony Bluetooth earbuds recently, out of the box they wouldn’t connect. You have to download an app, and agree to their EULA which is essentially “Were gonna steal data about everything you listen to” before you can connect to them via Bluetooth. Returned them the same day. Fuck Sony.

RGB3x3, (edited )

The WF-1000XM5s? I bought those a couple months ago and I feel like I was gaslit by all the tech reviewers saying they were the best.

Admittedly, they sound amazing, but they have so many technical issues that they’re barely worth using. Connection issues constantly, noise cancelling popping in and out, they turn on and connect when they’re in the case in my pocket, it takes 40 minutes to update them, if it even works at all, and the app is SO BAD!

I feel like I was bamboozled into paying a premium for bad earbuds.

Bartsbigbugbag,

I’ve had none of those issues, nor the one described above with Sony earbuds. They’re the fastest connecting, least often disconnecting earbuds I’ve ever had. What device are you connecting them to? Could at least explain some of the connections issues you’re having if it doesn’t support the newer codecs it prefers.

RGB3x3,

Pixel 8 pro, so yes, it supports everything. And the issues I’ve had are ones people have been complaining about for a long time. There are numerous reddit threads about them.

Don’t have these issues with any other devices.

Bartsbigbugbag,

Interesting. I have intimate knowledge of pixel devices, having been a Google certified technician and having gone beyond that to do component level diagnosis and repair. I can say, they are probably the worst put together phones on the market. They basically just cram as much shit in them as they can and hope it works. They don’t advertise it, but every single one has had major, serious issues. In fact, we were expressly forbidden from telling customers about known issues, and had to offer “one time exceptions” for all sorts of issues. So all that to say, I’m not surprised to hear about those issues on a pixel device. They’re not good devices. Even a $79 Samsung has better build quality and internal design. Android Bluetooth stack is notoriously terrible also, have you tried them with non-android devices, like a console, PC, Linux phone or iPhone to see if they persist?

PolarisFx,
@PolarisFx@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

They were the WF-500’s. I have a high end pair of Bose earbuds for music, but for audiobooks at work I just wanted something decent. What really got me to return them is I couldn’t use them single ear and have controls. Bought some Monster brand Chinese earbuds for dirt cheap, it’s my third pair from this brand and for the most part I get a good 18 months out of them before they have connection issues or the battery doesn’t last.

tiberius,
@tiberius@lemmy.ca avatar

Is this grace period typical of big publishers? What other games have this weird grace period for publisher accounts?

Aphelion,

My whole game broke yesterday right when Arrowhead made the announcement, because it turns out they pushed a micro update to Steam players that includes a .DLL that is identified as malware by most 3rd part antivirus.

So, sadly, after 350 hours of fun, Helldivers is staying uninstalled until Arrowhead reverses course on this Sony bullshit.

CMLVI,
@CMLVI@lemmy.world avatar

This sucks, cause Arrowhead is gonna catch some unneeded flak for it, but it’s almost purely a Sony plot for data, and Arrowhead and the players are the ones who lose.

Incandemon,

Well, at least I no longer have to waffle about whether I want to buy the game or not. This makes it an easy no.

Jordans_Vision,

I’ve been playing for a few months now. Really sucks they’re forcing it on us.

Alk,

It wasn’t the kernel level anti cheat from a lesser known company being required to play that made it a hard no?

Sonotsugipaa,
@Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

AFAIK, it runs at user level on Linux - still kinda SUS

TexMexBazooka,

Yeah I don’t feel like making yet another account for yet another service I don’t want. Just gonna request a refund and uninstall.

ThunderWhiskers,
@ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world avatar

That seems extreme for a game requesting you make an account if you are otherwise enjoying the game.

Sonotsugipaa,
@Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Looks reasonable for me, depending on how much information is required for creating a Sony account or how time-consuming it is to fabricate it (for example, unique, valid ad persistent email addresses don’t grow on trees).

ThunderWhiskers,
@ThunderWhiskers@lemmy.world avatar

I mean… Just open a Gmail account for spam and tie it to that. Creating a PlayStation account takes less than 5 min. I don’t see why you need a high security email to associate with a video game account, but different strokes right?

Sonotsugipaa,
@Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Oh I’m going to do that, but I also understand people who draw the line a bit earlier than I do and I think their frustration is completely warranted.

atocci,

I've apparently had a PlayStation account for years and didn't even remember, so at least I can confidently say they don't spam my inbox.

jeansburger,
@jeansburger@lemmy.world avatar

Something like addy.io or simple login would let you create a unique email address that you can turn off and on as needed. No chance for spam, completely unique as to be able to remove the ability to track you elsewhere on the web.

Sonotsugipaa,
@Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Isn’t creating a free email/sony account enough?

I don’t need to turn off what I don’t read

jeansburger,
@jeansburger@lemmy.world avatar

If you for some reason need to reset your password or do something else with the account.

You still have control over it using those services and there’s no chance of the free account getting reaped for inactivity and getting locked out. Sure creating a new Gmail account works, I just like having more control (and fewer passwords to deal with) using those services.

It’s also really nice to be able to use it to detect if a breach occurred because the email is unique to the service. Having the ability to make burner emails that are unique but owned by you and able to be toggled on and off helps me control what stuff hits my inbox. It also helps with privacy and preventing tracking as every site has its own unique address.

Once I started using those services I never give out my real email anymore. I don’t care if something asks for my email, I can just make a new unique email for everything and if you start spamming me it gets turned off until I need to deal with that service again. But having one inbox to check makes it simple to actually use those accounts since everything just goes into my true email.

Just my 2¢

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not reasonable. PSN isn’t available in every nation so some may be locked out of the game they paid for 4 months after the fact. That’s not even factoring in the privacy concerns

Sonotsugipaa,
@Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I meant that it’s reasonable to be concerned about it and request a refund, not that Snoy’s rug pull is reasonable

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, sorry. We’re on the same page.

qwertyqwertyqwerty,

No. Sony has a history of really fucking with people’s PC’s. Look into what they did with installing a rootkit on people’s computers in 2005. Also, do you have any idea how many launchers/DRM/anti-cheat software you would have on your system if gamers did not push back on companies at all? It would be like the 2000’s IE toolbar fiasco all over again.

beetus,

Installing a rootkit on people’s computers in 2005.

Not to downplay the shitty situation with hd2, but uh, got any examples from the last 5 to 10 years instead of pointing to something that happened nearly two decades ago?

qwertyqwertyqwerty,

No, I haven’t looked. Why? Do you think the business truly learned from their “mistake” and will do better by their customers? hahaha

I assume they ask because software security and stability has generally improved over the last 20 years.

extant,

And then it goes right out the window the first time a consumer clicks yes for uac to give admin privileges to a piece of software they don’t understand that can receive instructions remotely from the internet.

qwertyqwertyqwerty,

I assume they ask because software security and stability has generally improved over the last 20 years.

Sure, but not Sony’s. Taken from any of numerous posts on Reddit (there are many with sources if you want to find them:

April 2011: Hackers Access Personal Data of 77 Million Sony PlayStation Network Users

May 2011: Personal Details on 25 Million Sony Online Entertainment Customers Stolen

June 2011: Sony Pictures Website Hacked, Exposing One Million Accounts

November 2014: Hackers Steal 100 Terabytes of Data from Sony Pictures

August 2017: Hacker Group Accesses Sony Social Media Accounts

September 2023: Sony Investigates Alleged Hack

October 2023: Sony Notifies Employees of Data Breach"

Jordans_Vision,

You don’t need to make a Sony account. You can skip that. Unless they just changed something…

Edit - I just saw another post confirming this. What the hell.
