Hey #HomeAssistant community, I'm slow to getting a smart thermostat selected and installed – but want to keep it disconnected from the outside world.

Many (all?) have a phone app and req an account with the vendor, but I'd like to avoid that.

Ideal: Setup on wifi & use HA
Or: Do setup with throw-away credentials, then delete app and block WAN access in my router.

Will most still work if they can't phone home?

(FYI Google prods are not in my consid'n list)
