brendan,

@homeassistant
If anyone is thinking of installing Home Assistant Core (updated for 2024.2.1) in a FreeBSD jail, I've written up some instructions here:

@brendan @homeassistant I tried that before, but it failed miserably 😁
It runs now as a bhyve instance, sharing serial devices is however difficult.

I give it another try with this guide. Thanks for sharing

Believe it or not, my main motivation for trying to get HA Core running in a jail was to make it easier to access my Zigbee controller! It still wasn't 'easy', but it was more convenient than passing through an entire USB controller.

If they are of any help, I wrote my notes here: https://blog.brendans-bits.com/posts/2024/adding-zigbee-to-hass/

@brendan @homeassistant Follow up. I noticed that the bhyve VM had the add on option for various things I needed. But tthr freebsd jail core version not.

So I tried Ser2net on the host and the add on for on the VM.
A lot of fiddling in the settings but succes.🤞
