do comic books count? i just started reading DCeased. otherwise i’ve finally cracked open Lolita, it’s an interesting but disgusting read.

ludw,

Currently listening to Red Rising by Pierce Brown on Storytel. Only 3h into it yet but enjoying it so far at least :)

Thafirton,

I'm definitely late to the party but I'm reading Becoming, the Michelle Obama autobiography. Have had it on my shelf for years and have picked it up and abandoned it more than once. I'm committed to finishing it this time lol

davefischer,

Rereading Wul's Oms en série, the late 50s French sci-fi novel that the movie Fantastic Planet is based on.

I'm partially reading it because it's great language practice (my French is not very good) but also because I really like Wul. His stories are not much like American sci-fi. Not that they're intellectual in the realm of Lem or the Strugatskies, but... they go in directions someone (like myself) raised on American sci-fi doesn't expect. It's very interesting.

Gabino3503,

I am reading "Maskiner som tenker: Algoritmenes hemmeligheter og veien til kunstig intelligens" (Machines that think: The algorithms' secrets and the way to artificial intelligence) by Inga Strümke. I have learned many new terms, as well as artificial intelligence's history and fundamental concepts.

Tsuki,

Currently reading Thinking Fast And Slow. Have been wanting to read something like it for a while now but my motivation just doesn't kick for me. I aimed to finish this book at some point this year

altz3r0,

Finally finished with Pattern Recognition, William Gibson. It was... nice, it definitely felt like Gibson was uncomfortable writing in the present tense.

Next up is a Brazillian book, As águas-vivas não sabem de si by Aline Valek

grogg,

Just started reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Before that it was Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Jacob,

Just some light summer reading then?

grogg,

Haha, yes. My local bookshop had a sale on new prints of classical books. I also picked up a copy Frankenstein that I've read already.

cold_cathode,

Those are some great books to read over the summer. Moby Dick, Crime and Punishment, and Frankenstein are in my list of favourite books. I'm currently really enjoying a non-fiction book on Frankenstein called "Frankenstein a Cultural History" by Susan Tyler Hitchcock.

DJDarren,

My current read is Abarat by Clive Barker.

I'd not heard of it until last week, when folks on r/books were singing its praises in a thread, so figured I'd give it a shot. Yeah, it's enjoyable. Definitely aimed squarely at the middle of the YA crowd, but it's an easy read at a time when my brain isn't letting me really get into any books.

Frenchpress_Hellyes,

Barker has a fascinating imagination. I finished Coldheart canyon recently. I almost walked away repulsed many times but there was good story under all his signature flair. After Imajica I will try to read anything he writes.

PotentiallyAnApricot,

The Two Towers. I’ve been needing to read more slowly in the past few years for health reasons, and I am finding lotr just so perfect for that. The nature descriptions are absolutely to die for.

MajorMajormajormajor,

"After all, why shouldn't I write about trees for three pages? It's my own book, my precious." - JRR Tolkien

PotentiallyAnApricot,

PRECISELY.

TheCalzoneMan,

Currently reading The Wandering Inn: Volume 7 by Pirateaba.

MajorMajormajormajor,

To sleep in a sea of stars.

A very interesting sci-fi book that was a little slow for the first 50 or so pages but then really took off after that. It's honestly caused meany sleepless nights as I stay up far too late reading because I just can't put it down.

d3fc0n1,

I'm reading The Stranger, by Albert Camus. It's a short read and I'm already focusing on some of The Atlantic's recommendations in the Summer Reading Guide.

cold_cathode,

I just started The Stranger too! I've been meaning to read it for a few years now. I wanted to find a paper copy in French, but I haven't found one used yet so I've been reading it in English on paper and French online.

davefischer,

Last month I decided to reread my Lem collection. Started Solaris yesterday. (I've read it three or four times before.)

Kamirose,

I had to return Tress of the Emerald Sea before finishing it because my library loan ran out, but I placed a libby hold so I should be able to start up again soon. I enjoy it while I read it but for some reason I don’t feel a strong urge to continue it after I put it down, so I’ve been reading it for like, two hours at a time once a week or so.

Meanwhile, I checked out Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries, by Heather Fawcett and am enjoying it very much so far.
