spacecowboy,

Do people still watch this stuff?

I am a millennial who grew up reading comic books. Love them. I cannot stand the marvel universe on screen anymore. It’s milking the product and diluting it at the same time (imo).

The general consensus amongst my clan is that this stuff is only being watched because it’s the only thing being offered; not because it is good.

How do others feel about it?

Loki had some really good doctor who vibes

CeruleanRuin,

I can see that as a blanket statement about superhero media in general (even though blanket statements are often wrong, and always useless), but Loki was a high watermark for the genre, and there’s no reason to think a second season won’t continue that quality.

“Milking the product” is a curious phrase. That’s basically what products are for.

spacecowboy,

Thanks for your opinion.

ClarkDoom,

I agree with you mostly. I’ve read comics my whole life and have a decently sized collection so I should be the target audience. That said, I’ve watched every marvel movie and show and there’s a very real lack in quality in basically all of the tv shows and movies post endgame. Wanda and Loki were two that started strong and then devolved in the middle and failed the landing. The other shows were misfires from the first episode. Miss Marvel had one good episode but it was a flashback sequence the whole time but I’ll give it credit. I have no problem with Disney “milking the product” but I wish the milk was at least quality milk.

I’ll probably get downvoted for this but these shows are made for the lowest common denominator so they’re always gonna have viewers and defenders. Most people don’t give one thought to a show’s direction and they care more about plot than an overall product. Disney knows this and it’s why I don’t think these shows will ever be “great” in the sense of other shows like Sopranos or Breaking Bad. If they made a show that was truly great I don’t think their current audience would even be able to tell and it would be a waste of money for Disney.

I haven’t seen the last like 4 Marvel movies because they no longer interest me. I have been enjoying most of the shows, but it’s a bit less of a commitment to say “oh I’ll watch one of these episodes every now and then” instead of going to a theater and spending 3-4 hours there.

So yeah, I think most people are getting burned out. The latest movies haven’t been very good from what I’ve heard, the stories aren’t as fun, the new characters aren’t carrying as well as the old guard. Basically the same issue with Star Wars where the movies suck but the shows have been either really good or really bad.
