Illari seems somewhat uninspired?

Hello, Maybe it’s just me, but from the teasing they did and the concepts I expected a hero with an exotic gameplay and kit; instead, I feel she’s very generic and basically a dps with some dash of healing. Even visually, I initially thought this was just a skin for Sojourn. Anyways, what do you guys think?

sznio,

She’s overpowered but despite that she never feels unfair. I haven’t played as her yet, but as a DPS player I like playing with and against her.

Gameplay design wise I think they really hit it. I want all other heroes to be as powerful yet as fair.

Visually, she gives off strong Paladins Furia vibes. Thematically kinda similar too.

Her ult is completely different from all other ults in the game.

darkregn,

I feel like they can reduce her damage to make her less dps like, but she’s fun to play with and against imo and has utility as a support.

She’s like Moira where she doesn’t provide anything except healing and damage, but I think that’s ok. The way her gun works is pretty different, she has the first healing turret in the game, and her ult is cool.

rockerface,

Thank you! I’ve been trying to understand what Illari is lacking for me, compared to Ana/Zen/Bap (who are usually my go-to supports and go-to heroes for kicking ass). She doesn’t have any sort of utility, like Ana’s nade, Zen’s discord or Bap’s lamp/window. She is basically a long-range Moira in terms of what she brings to the table and now that I’ve realised that I understand a lot better where I can and should pick her.

jkdm,

All her abilities just seem like they’re somewhat taken from other heroes.

rockerface, (edited )

To be fair to the devs, there’s only so much abilities you can come up with, until you start either reusing stuff or slapping together more and more convoluted mechanics and conditions. It’s especially noticeable in Dead by Daylight, with its 3 month per killer release schedule and a commitment to keep killer abilities at least somewhat simple to understand

Edit: typo

To add to that, heroes having unique effects is what has in the past led to over-centralising metas that everyone complains about and the devs have made comments saying they’re trying to avoid that happening again.

rockerface,

I reckon after Lifeweaver they decided to not make a hero that requires a Wikipedia page to describe. I like her simplicity
