OC Fun with AI Hero Designs [Crosspost]
I was futzing around with ChatGPT, and I had the idea of having it generate some new Overwatch characters. I was not disappointed. It did a great job of understand the types of heroes and villains that exist in the Overwatch universe. It even came up with the names: Dr. Vega, Solara, and Titan. I find it interesting that Solara resembles Illari in that ChatGPT, whose training data cut off in 2021, came up with another solar powered character. I also get echos of Lifeweaver with Dr. Vega, with themes of inventions falling into the wrong hands. I also used AI to generate some character art, just for fun.
Dr. Vega - Character Profile
Background:
Dr. Hector Vega was a leading scientist in the field of robotics and nanotechnology, with an emphasis on medical applications. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he worked at a research facility dedicated to using technology to solve global health crises. Dr. Vega had always admired Overwatch for its initial aim to bring peace and stability but grew disillusioned with the organization as it became embroiled in controversy.
How He Fits into the Overwatch Universe:
Dr. Vega had been approached by Overwatch early in his career but declined, skeptical of mixing his healing tech with warfare. However, with the rise of a new enemy that threatened to use similar technology for devastating purposes, Dr. Vega realized the importance of acting rather than observing. He joins the newly reformed Overwatch, albeit cautiously, contributing his expertise to prevent his life's work from becoming a weapon of mass destruction.
Story Beat:
As Overwatch reassembles, Winston reaches out to Dr. Vega, aware of his groundbreaking nanotech research. Winston convinces him that this is the time for action, and the best way to ensure ethical use of his technology is from within Overwatch. Reluctantly, Dr. Vega agrees and joins the organization, becoming an unexpected but crucial ally.

When Dr. Vega hasn't taken damage for a few seconds, his nanobots automatically repair his armor, gradually restoring health.

After an eco-terrorism event led by a faction she disapproved of, she decided to repurpose her tech expertise to be a vigilante, ensuring that ecological justice could be attained without unnecessary harm.

Solara operates in a world that is already fraught with the complications of technology gone awry, which made her mission align closely with Overwatch's initial ideals. She has been on the fringes of the organization, often collaborating on missions that aligned with her goals of environmental preservation and ethical tech usage.

When the new Overwatch is formed, Winston contacts her, offering a spot to serve as a technology and sustainability advisor. Solara accepts, realizing that the global influence of Overwatch can be the platform she needs to enact real change, albeit keeping her vigilant activities a secret for now.

Solara releases a sphere of intense solar energy into the sky. After a short delay, it bursts, blinding and damaging enemies in its radius while also fully recharging her and her allies' abilities.

Solara’s weapon automatically regenerates energy when she's standing in areas exposed to natural light in outdoor maps, promoting positional strategy.
Solara serves as a damage hero who can also offer tactical advantages through her unique barriers and area-of-effect abilities. Her playstyle encourages thoughtful positioning and has elements of resource management with her energy-based weaponry.
Titan - Character Profile
Background:
Titan, originally known as Gregor Ivanov, was a construction worker in St. Petersburg, Russia, until a catastrophic industrial accident left him severely injured. Rather than accept defeat, Gregor used his mechanical skills to build himself a custom-made mech suit designed for construction but also capable of great destruction.
How He Fits into the Overwatch Universe:
Gregor blamed Overwatch's failure to maintain global peace for the decline in safety regulations that led to his accident. Adopting the name Titan, he has since become a vigilante, using his mech to illegally dismantle Overwatch-endorsed installations, which he views as symbols of irresponsible technological proliferation.
Story Beat:
Titan intercepts an Overwatch mission aiming to secure a new form of clean energy, claiming that it is yet another hazard waiting to happen. His actions put him squarely on Overwatch's radar as a villain. Despite the good intentions behind his acts, his methods make him an enemy to Overwatch.
Gameplay Abilities:
Primary Ability: Power Fist
Titan’s mech is equipped with hydraulic fists that deal significant melee damage. A powerful punch can knock back enemies.
Secondary Ability: Wrecking Ball
Titan can transform into a wrecking ball for a limited time, increasing movement speed and allowing him to break through enemy barriers with ease.
