Hey anybody on the Fediverse got experience with the #pokemontcg ? I got the My First Battle box for my 5 year old and he loves it. We played for two hours and he wanted to play more today. He rarely does anything longer than an hour before wanting to move on.
Question I have is where I should go from there? He’s fairly good a remembering details and rules but I don’t want to start dropping a bunch of rules on him right now away. I can see the starter decks get tired after a bit though so I am wondering what’s the best slow growth path for him?
I also want to try to stave off the addiction that is opening boosters. I know it’s a feature of TCG but I also know how easy it is to fall into the hole of MORE and I’m trying to teach him consuming with purpose, not just getting stuff to have more stuff you know? So things that provide the most bang for your dollar would be best.
@grubbslinger the iPad app is pretty good, so he can get more experience. Buying a box of booster packs is much better value than buying one at a time, and a great time! The pre-made decks have difficulty ratings 1-3 on them, stick with 1s to avoid the most difficult rules. It’s like two Joeys battling Rattata rather than fighting though Battle Tower. #pokemontcg
I've been having a lot of fun with the #PokemonTCG, I'm not sure if I like it more than hearthstone but I'm def interested in playing it more in person here in Seattle :)
Does anyone around here play the #PokemonTCG? I've got some questions as a magic player looking into trying the game, if you know both magic and ptcg that'd be dope
@Purrtail ah, i was mostly wondering if i could get a breakdown of the current meta decks in magic terms to understand what the decks are doing/how they work haha
the more i play #pokemontcg the more i realize that the deck I've been playing, Chien Pao, is literally the same deck as Gifts Ungiven Storm in #magicthegathering
i've played a LOT of card games and i can't think of any two decks that map onto each other quite so well. which is so hype because gifts storm is my favorite mtg deck lol
How the fuck are you supposed to play non-precon decks on #pokemonTCGlive? I've been playing for months, have only played precons, and finally when there's a deck I want to play I have nowhere near enough credits for it. Is there a place to buy credits that I'm missing?
