I referenced it to reference Flash itself. A lot of lost potential there for the same reasons, and it really hasn't been replaced in most aspects that it had.
As far as tech goes SVG isn't bad, but again is not well supported in 2D game engines unless you're rasterizing it first. In some cases there is mesh rendering too, but that's not true vector anymore so I'd rather have intentional polygons.
Decades old nostalgia just fucking slapped me across the face. I remember this scene so well, because I didn’t have a memory card and the ps1 wasn’t allowed to stay on when I wasn’t playing. It’s amazing how well these graphics hold up
See especially the vertex color skyboxes(album). Some other stuff (soot, glowing effects) used vertex colors but skyboxes (and specifically using the mesh to fake hard-edge colors) is a really smart and A E S T H E T I C method that only got better with the ability to render PS1 games with higher internal res.
