I imagine that some form of hydroxyapatite might be a better alternative for drinking water (and it may even be good for bone health too), though I cannot find any info on it exactly. Particularly as it can be used to adsorb other contaminants of water (also there is info on using it to remove fluoride from water but not to take its function).

I am a shut-in living in a low density area (and the trail near me is even still closed). This hits so many escapist fantasies: public transportation, full-conversion cyborg (living in a fortress the shape of my body), low-cost living, and certainly that'd be a unionized position.

I can already imagine my brain in a core like Wheatley driving a tiny railcar, "You don't have a heart problem do you?" as I quickly accelerate. "This might seem dangerous, but you are extremely late. Like embarrassingly late. I'm fairly sure if either of us gets in trouble tonight it'll be you attempting to shop this close to closing time. So the way I see it, this is a light emergency. Besides, I don't have enough to talk about at normal speed, it'd be awkward."

I once again ask why there is no form of filtering, especially for new users who rapid post. Also spammers using the same names with a higher number after they get banned.

insomniac_lemon,
insomniac_lemon avatar

This is easy to ask for, but not easy to implement.

The problem I see (and what influenced the tone of my other comment) is that I don't think I've seen any acknowledgement about any sort of filtering and this is a persistent problem. I get it, but also it seems really unnecessary to manually remove the 10 threads obviously not made by humans (or even just the 3 accounts that just popped up in a close time-frame).

It doesn't need to be perfect, surely any technique can be worked-around eventually but that also introduces extra steps (that spammers don't need to take now) that makes it harder and less likely. Doing so I think makes moderation much more viable and impactful.

Even just some sort of auto-spoiler/warning (multiple suspicious keywords in a non-relevant community, new user, 3 threads in an hour etc) could have an effect.

insomniac_lemon,
insomniac_lemon avatar

I mean this is because of a technical issue likely on Kbin's side. Which is not a shock.

Also I posted 2 threads to kbin communities recently, 1 got most of its activity from LW and the other got 4 favorites from different instances and no comments (and it did not federate to LW, though I don't think that was related to the temporary block). LW could be too big but kbin seems kind of dead for the communities that aren't constantly in the feed (likely because of the same people posting, in many cases). Though technical issues always could be part of it in one way or another.

It seems to me like lemmy.world has more activity. One of my threads even has 6/7 upvotes and both commenters from it (on ps1graphics, which is a kbin community). Oddly on the blender community (also kbin?) my thread got 4 upvotes from different instances but no comments EDIT: And I just checked, it seems to have not federated to lemmy.world (23 hours ago, probably before the temporary activity block?) and the one upvoted by LW seems to not have gone to the other instances

There is a lot more activity (threads and votes at least) on !artshare

https://kbin.social/m/ps1graphics and https://kbin.social/m/blender . I tried community links with one before and it seemed to not work, but !ps1graphics and !blender (!blender@kbin.social am I missing something with kbin communities in this format?)

Though I looked at my profile on your instance and neither post shows up, so these communities may not federate to you. Oddly, Ask Kbin does but manually editing the URL to the others does not work

insomniac_lemon,

I'm guessing it's only here on Kbin. For instance I don't see your comment on the non-Kbin side (more>open original url) of this thread (see comment count difference). Then again, federation issues with Kbin is not new either so it is hard to tell (it could just take a day for it to send over). But in this case I'd guess "all actions" does include comments/threads.

Either way I'm not sure there's even a way for you to plainly see that voting is not federated, at least I haven't seen anything like threads from a specific instance that don't have voting arrows or give an error etc.

I tried a cheap pair and my takeaway is that this technology needs a specific amount of contact pressure, and with no mechanism to assure this (do the "name brand" ones have something?) a poor fit means it doesn't work at all and then if you fiddle with the position you can get something that basically turns your ear canal into a speaker (at least it doesn't seem like it's actually going direct, at least for most of the sound).

Also using a headphone amplifier, loudness normalization is an issue especially as certain content clips while some doesn't. This one probably directly relates to cost.

Maybe this would've been more interesting to post? I don't know. The left is the original and probably had too many vertices, so I decided to decimate it a bit.

This uses 2 different sets of vertex colors (and slightly different plane geometry for different colors) then proportional editing to give it a 3D shape, also some of it is reused. 13 leaves. I actually left the original unbent ones in too (in the middle).

EDIT: image link for non-Kbin

I'm not saying it's 100% true
but I live in a small village near tracks but not a station
and the trail in the other direction is still closed for renovation and has been for more than 6 months (the listed end was and still is "early 2024"). In both directions too (cut off from a close slightly-larger town and a slightly further small city).

I mean this probably says more about car dependence than infrastructure itself, but also I wouldn't doubt there's cost overruns and delays etc caused by a private contractor (though in this case it was also probably put off for too long by the state).

Or maybe just screw me in particular. I had just started getting out and getting in shape.

I got one on sale for ~$700. 250w, 10.4Ah, 45Lbs (and smaller than most bikes), folding, and has gears. I did have to air up the tires and tune the derailleur (and it does not have every feature), even though it was new I wouldn't say "used Corolla of ebikes" would be a bad comparison especially on value (and that it may not be enough for everyone). It went cheaper after I bought it, but looks like that's because it was discontinued (I don't see it on their site anymore, also the company seems to have missed the point on it with a comparison to a new model). EDIT: though they do have a somewhat comparable model, D11, but I chose the now-discontinued bike over that (possibly largely because price).

But yeah, seeing headlines on this sub I know nothing new is going to compare to that on value. Like their "cheap" is gonna be a $1K+ bike that probably has some other issue like weighing 60Lbs or has no gears.

Looking at your instance it seems just like kbin for this specific thing: crossposts take up 1/2 the space of a normal post. Not quite the hell it was before, but can still reduce the amount of visible posts easily especially the more there are, 5 is already taking a large portion of the visible screen.

Yes you can scroll, but also it's kind of pointless to crosspost like this when it comes to federation and the normal feed of hot/new/active etc. It might make a difference when it comes to subs, but it'll likely wrap back to annoying if a user subscribes to every instance of a community and possibly also if a sub tries to make that unneeded by pulling in content from other instances. Particularly if a lot of people crosspost like that.

Heck, looking at different communities (relevant to a post I made recently) it doesn't even seem like a high subscriber or post amount really results in much activity.

For me it's more of a personality disorder* than a type, but still the answer is yes.

Though also kind of reinforced by my environment, lacking money/transportation/activities and even when I started riding on the trail (mostly to get in shape, some shopping, never really talked w/anyone) the section near me was closed in both directions for maintenance and still closed 6 months+ later.

WASHINGTON—In a historic ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court declared Tuesday that Americans have the right to roofies. “A sexual predator’s right to Rohypnol is an issue of personal liberty that must not be infringed upon,” said Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who grew visibly emotional during oral arguments, asserting through...

A bit too straightforward. Needs to have one justice poorly pretending it's just another sleeping pill, after a call-out another justice says that any drug can be used maliciously (keeps rambling about intent to the point of using the phrase "thought police"), and then the admission from Brett.

EDIT: Also mental/psychic damage warning on this one (sorry), another justice saying it's a consensual "marital aid". "It was my wife's idea"

Was there ever any doubt?

I referenced it to reference Flash itself. A lot of lost potential there for the same reasons, and it really hasn't been replaced in most aspects that it had.

As far as tech goes SVG isn't bad, but again is not well supported in 2D game engines unless you're rasterizing it first. In some cases there is mesh rendering too, but that's not true vector anymore so I'd rather have intentional polygons.

I wear clothes that are more than a decade old (aside from newer clothing that was a gift), I don't even buy clothes anymore. If something is torn or doesn't fit right, I sew it myself (although I'm not good at it), in fact sewing the waistband on underwear seems to be what I've had most luck with.

Then again I also almost never go out and have nothing resembling a social life so it doesn't really matter for me anyway, so I get most people probably would not want to do anything like this.

I was having similar thoughts about Nim and portability when I saw this Github project (it uses APE but it's more like a runtime for software? though I'm not sure if actual usage is easy like other frameworks/libraries etc). Though honestly I will probably sooner do something with Godot or Raylib via bindings instead, which is unfortunate because the 2D polygonal style is not well supported* unless you keep it really simple.

I'm thinking about tinkering with low-poly 3D+mostly untextured models (vertex colors, see vertex color skyboxes as an inspiration for the style/concept) to sidestep the 2D issue (as it's well-established in 3D). My mousewheel is currently broken, though. And I'm not totally happy about the idea of using Blender, though any 3D editor opens up more options (in-engine stuff is cool, but probably locked-in).

It's also difficult finding discussion about Nim on the fediverse, particularly when people don't explicitly say nim-lang. That and often Kbin doesn't properly federate Mastodon replies so potential conversations are just broken. And I haven't seen other languages that come close to the same feel, some scripting languages might be OK if their performance wasn't a problem (and often there are options to help, but it also makes me question if it also wrecks their compatibility with bindings when it's a different thing).

* = 1. Godot 4 has a still-in-PR-stage feature that can be used for art but may not perform well enough to be used for an entire project with MSAA, also still no Nim bindings. Also even then, the editors could be better (vertex colors and internal vertices).
2. I am not aware of polygonal tools for Raylib at all, started making a text format and loader but got bogged down on details. And it would be even more basic than Godot's polygons, no animation aside from just making multiple frames and swapping (or maybe some basic transform effects, but this would all need to be done manually while Godot has in-engine animation).
