Shutting down the OASIS to me was the part that showed zero critical thought went into anything with the books and it was literally just GenX nostalgia and literally nothing more.

-Entire industries were created around the OASIS. This could cripple the smaller business while the larger ones can just absorb it.
-There are disabled folks that the OASIS may have been their refuge and only source of community.
-Poor people don't stop being poor, but now they've lost their free source of entertainment 2x a week.
-I don't remember if this was detailed, but there is a huge chance that basically all communications are funneled through the OASIS since it's just an extension of our internet.

When Internet goes out, think how you feel. Not imagine you live in the fucking stacks and are currently in a trailer 100ft above ground ... Wtf do you do?

But, no, gotta throw in a "need to touch grass" lesson in there with zero thought to the consequences of the world you created.
