From time to time #Perseverance uses its fixed down looking camera, or EDL_RDCAM, to record movies of, well, the ground 🥴 , probably while the ground radar RIFMAX does its thing. And let's not forget that it's the same camera that captured those epic images during the rover's descent to the Martian ground.

@65dBnoise

Would you happen to know if anyone has processed a timelapse movie of the down-look camera images acquired on sol 910 :)

@65dBnoise@mastodon.social avatar

@PaulHammond51
LittleAssistant shows no EDL images acquired on that Sol 🤔

But here's a down-look image from a much higher altitude 🤣 , that of , showing how the rover moved the sols before and after Sol 910:

@65dBnoise

Maybe LittleAssistant is not looking in the right place :) Try selecting movie frames on the raw server, or use Aerobrowser to view Sol 910:

@PaulHammond51
LOL! I already did that, but forgot the tick for movies.
Yeah, LittleAssistant has always been reluctant to deal with movie frames, and as I see now, it still drags its feet when it comes to that task.

Those little pesky assistants won't do anything unless I spent the time to teach them how to do it, and then keep a close eye on them. 🙃 😆

@PaulHammond51@fosstodon.org avatar

@65dBnoise I realise there was no drive on 910, but that's probably the same time stamp issue that the EDL cameras have been plagued with since landing.

IIRC the images are captured by the camera, but only assigned a timestamp when they are transferred to the the main computer. So I guess we can safely assume the images were acquired before sol 910 :)

As for your LA, maybe time to put it back in learn mode. It's already way faster than us mere nerdy morals, it can only get better :)

@65dBnoise@mastodon.social avatar

@PaulHammond51
That Sol 910 EDL image sequence looks quite messed up though, so it would require a lot of time for juggling images around manually to find where each one sits in time.

@PaulHammond51
My symbolic LittleAssistant is a trusty assistant, not a BS-ing over-hyped A"I" that hallucinates alternative facts out of thin Martian air. But... it needs me to do the initial hard work for its various features 🥴

However, if I were to put some time in for Mars2020, that would be to refactor its database, as this version was designed to be used as a proxy to NASA's metadata, but was never used as such by LA.

@65dBnoise I glad that your LA is not weened on Hallucinogenic's (AI) :) Happy that it's more of a tugger of shirt tails that says "Hey Human, take a look at this, it may be interesting" :)

@65dBnoise@mastodon.social avatar

@PaulHammond51
😀 It may sound simple but it really isn't. It's not about them, machines, it's about us and what is acceptable by today's norms.

I've pondered for quite a while on whether it should be calling me "human", by my name, or something else. Political correctness, for god's sake, wouldn't allow someone in the 21 century to be called "master" or "lord", as if the speaker was a slave. Which of course it is. Under that same 'political correctness' nonsense, even "boss" might sound

@PaulHammond51
too much. But then again, to have a computer program call you by your name or "human" creates a totally wrong impression that it's alive and intelligent, and that we are somehow equal; that actually feels ridiculous, once you implement it and starts working.

Having to choose between two ridiculous situations, one real but reminiscent of a past no one feels comfortable with, because it's projected on people today, and the other AI hype overdose, I chose the former. Fortuntly

@PaulHammond51
most of the talk is impersonal announcements, and unfortunately using a title like "Master" doesn't make fake appearance of intelligence go away, but at least it reflects reality.

Master of machines, lol! 🤣
But isn't that what we all are? From a simple cordless drill, to cars, ships, airplanes, spaceships? OK, machine operators sounds less grandiose, but even that we changed to "captain", "pilot", "commander". Also, these machines today can actually talk back to you. 🙃 🙃

@65dBnoise

Thought of a sound clip I replaced on my office Apple Mac SE, it was set to play in place of the 'Error Beep' 🤣

"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that"

Raised a few smiles back in the day...

Foreshadowing? 😬

65dBnoise,
@65dBnoise@mastodon.social avatar

@PaulHammond51
Ha ha! That movie made a huge impression to all of us. Such tricks are a lot of fun! It's the hype and the grift which follows that spoils it all.

65dBnoise,
@65dBnoise@mastodon.social avatar

@PaulHammond51
Besides the fun, there is an actual human factors issue to be solved here: how to pay attention to what is essential, and avoid being bothered by less significant details. Alarm fatigue is a real problem for control rooms, hospitals etc. So a machine with a voice that can call for and get human attention (no AI BS) where it is required, is a much needed solution.

So, to answer your question, if one were to have processed a timelapse movie for that, that would definitely be @Landru79 :-)

@65dBnoise is that how those rocks naturally look?

@minervakoenig
That's regolith (i.e. loose soil, granules and sand) after a rover wheel passed over it. Looks crusty at some untouched areas, which is interesting.
