Making a strike "illegal" is more or less enacting slavery. Good on the teachers.

TheChurn,

The strike was "illegal" meaning that it did not have the traditional protections afforded striking workers, such as being unable to be fired, and the union was fined for each day the strike continued.

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has ruled that even using the word “strike” constitutes “inducing, encouraging or condoning a work stoppage by public employees.” Union leaders who do so risk fines—personally and as elected leaders—and even jail time.

That's what it means that the strike was illegal. (Citation)

CaptainSpaceman,

Has that law stood up to SCOTUS? it seems highly unconstitutional

BossDj,

There are more states that ban public sector strikes then there are those where it is protected

FrankTheHealer,

It’s never illegal to strike. Jesus Christ.

Impromptu, unannounced, sure. I could see that being annoying for parents.

But fuck illegal as a way to describe strikes.

rockSlayer,

“technically this is an illegal strike”

but technically workers have no rights, never cross a picket line

Never cross a picket line, always support workers fighting for justice.

n3m37h,

Congrats peeps, good on ya
