Ouch @gruber. “Browser rendering is surprisingly resource-intensive — partially because modern , , and are remarkably complex, and partially because most web are remarkably untalented and careless .” https://mastodon.social/@daringfireball/111365357800033072

Glad I’m mostly . We sweat the cycles because they’re on our dime.

FYI I’ve done since before lured @BrendanEich with the false promise to “put in the browser.”

@mjgardner @gruber @BrendanEich This has to do with the fact that huge corporations develop and push for remarkably heavy and resource-intensive frameworks, but feel free to insult us as you wish. For your sake, not ours, I hope you would grow to realize that although "Some people are idiots" is always part of the answer, but "This specific group of people are idiots" is never the whole answer.

@mjgardner @gruber @BrendanEich You are an inch away from "I write C, that's why I am a real programmer and all you other people are not."

@abuseofnotation @gruber @BrendanEich I know. Stupid former-employer VPS host. I need to move it.

Let's see... insulting an individual and an entire class of people, and vindicating your remarks by bragging about your years of experience. And you've tagged everyone who might have a different perspective.

You're very impressive!

The Javascript that you may not control can eat up the client cycles faster than some text can get rendered.

@SpaceLifeForm @gruber @BrendanEich I’ll date myself further: I remember being shocked when I upgraded my 300 baud to 1200 baud because suddenly, the text was arriving too fast for me to read.

Now we're going backward.

@mjgardner @gruber @BrendanEich My wife @eugenialoli and I were just discussing how sloppy client code just externalizes the costs of processing power (hardware cost, energy cost, environment costs). And that's not even a new trend, it's been going on for decades.
