Was it really necessary to trick me into downloading a file to see this?

_Sprite,

I jumped through like 20 hoops just to upload it, 10 more to make it actually play

MrJameGumb,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

I think you’re getting downvoted because people are mad that it just downloads the file without any warning

_Sprite,
@_Sprite@lemmy.world avatar

Understandable, I uploaded to like 4 different image hosts and vid formats just so it displays right on Lemmy. Thats too much effort just to post garbage no wonder this sub is barren

Dasnap,
@Dasnap@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah using Imgur is easiest sadly. Last time I tried, Lemmy just seems to be shite at handling GIFs. Might put it in the sidebar.

WintLizard, in Not even FS Meter is safe
@WintLizard@sopuli.xyz avatar

You can have both. I have multiple people over? 6 person FFA with the works. Just me and my bro? 1v1 tournament rules lets get sweaty. The diversity of options is what makes Smash such a great game.

Banda, in Not even FS Meter is safe

No items No fs meter No smash ball 1v1 No time limit 4 stock Battlefield only

This is the way

Carnelian,

Yes time limit, every competitive ruleset has a timer. You need it to prevent stalling and other such poor behavior.

Also, restricting to only battlefield would massively advantage any chars who KO off the top. There’s a list of legal stages for each game to keep things balanced when competing in best of 3+

Banda,

Yeah agreed for a real competition.

This is just my preferred rule set for “competitive play” with my friends.

I prefer no time since we won’t really cheese each other and some of the battles end up being fierce.

Battlefield only just saves time from actually picking stages but you’re right about advantages. This really just carried over from our melee days where we always played battlefield.

Carnelian,

Hmm, if your battles feel aggressive they shouldn’t be taking a long time at all. It may be the case that you guys are just trading in neutral constantly without really following up, only taking stocks once the opponent has reached very high percents.

Not that there’s a problem with that or anything. But it sounds like you guys have been playing for years, so I think you’d sincerely just enjoy the game that much more if you looked into playing with a proper tournament ruleset + learned the kill setups for your mains. The timer isn’t just for preventing cheese, it also dictates the flow of the match, placing pressure on the disadvantaged player to take decisive actions. You miss out on that whole element of the game playing with house rules.

Banda,

I guess it’s really just been habit more than anything. What is the standard time limit for matches in competitive?

Carnelian,

Depends on the game, and then there can also some variation depending on the tournament organizers. But usually you’ll see 4 stock 8 mins for melee, and 3 stock 7 mins for ultimate.

My way of doing it is “Its 3000 years in the future, planet colony, but its themed. You can still get amazing healthcare, but ordinary civilians are only supposed to use fantasy tech. Also every person can decide to leave and return at any time.”

That’s why you gotta have the technologically advanced precursor race that’s still around except they fucked off from the rest of society and keep the technology to themselves since y’all can’t behave.

They track down and confiscate unapproved use of their tech resulting in users needing to make really jank hacks to get around the tech’s DRM.

Katana314, in 'The ones that came before' had crystal powered AirPods

I will admit, for one of my writing ideas, it’s basically this. But, I set a rule that, while there are a very small list of certain kinds of artifacts left behind, most of what this race had was completely destroyed or lost; meaning they only exist as a tragic story about how nothing is permanent. Hopefully it’s an inventive take.

It’s a common theme because it’s cool.
