“I know, Sayaka... it sucks to be alone. Believe me, I know. But it's ok, now. 'Cause I’m here with you, Sayaka."

I think I vastly underrated the subplot of Kyoko Sakura and Sayaka Miki when I first watched Madoka Magica.

From the clashes of Sayaka's sense of justice and Kyoko's faith, to the way they inspired each other while not realizing it, to the way they almost save each other, and to the way they actually do... there was some really cool storytelling going on!

I seriously didn't think I'd be able to pull this one off with just one pic, but haha! I actually found a cat 🐈 and a cake 🍰 in the same frame of an for the challenge.

Yes, the cat is technically an amphibious mercat from planet Ranga in Macross Δ, but the cake is a real cake, so it still counts!

Including close ups of Freyja Wion's birthday cake and SDF/C-108 Macross Elysion bridge bunny Nina O'Brien’s pet mercat just for fun!

Symphogear combines magical girl action with the power of music to create something awesome. It's also a multimedia project that has a mobile game and music concerts.

And, the concerts have affected future seasons of the show! Like how the 2018's duet between Aoi Yuki and Minako Kotobuki lead to the same song appearing in the 5th season.

Or how in the 2013 live, Tsubasa’s Nana Mizuki's bad drawing turned up in season 3 and inspired a similarly shaped Noise monster!

The finale of the Revue Starlight movie is nuts.

The main character:

  • Notices the real life audience is watching her.
  • Dies.
  • Turns into a giant stage positioning mark.
  • Rides a rocket train through a sand storm.
  • Watches younger versions of herself burn away.
  • Proclaims her love of the stage.
  • Is stabbed by her best friend.
  • Sees Tokyo Tower ripped in half.
  • Loses her hairclip.
  • And comes away hungry for a tomato.

Oh, and it all makes complete sense!

She then transforms into a… “position zero” t-shaped stage mark. The kind you would put down with tape to show an actor or actress where to stand on stage.
The big defining moment of the entire movie is Karen being stabbed by her best friend and realizing that in the battles stage girls fight to earn a role one must necessarily betray the other. No matter how good of friends they are otherwise.
In addition to the tower that symbolized the childhood promise between Karen and her best friend getting ripped in half, Karen also loses the hair pin that her friend bought for her. Another symbolic breaking of that original promise.

Thank you?

”No, Thank You!”

From K-On!!

I love all the K-On! ending songs and this one with the actual words from this week's challenge appearing on screen immediately came to mind! :)

There's a lot of mixed opinions on Madoka Magica's movie, Rebellion. For sure, it took an that had a perfect ending and... extended it. Completely toppled the newly established status quo of the good side winning, even. Kind left the series on a cliffhanger, too.

And yet, Rebellion is just so, sooo good! Stylistically, it’s amazing. Storywise, too! It's a completely logical continuation of the series in general and Homura’s story and deep rooted issues specifically.

One of the neater things Macross Frontier did was record the first three of Sheryl Nome’s songs of her Frontier Concert as if they were live.

Welcome To My FanClub's Night! (Sheryl On Stage), What 'bout my star? (Sheryl On Stage), and Iteza - Gogo 9ji - Don't be late (Sheryl On Stage) flow directly into each other, crowd noise and all.

The anime puts them way out of order. The first isn't even played till episode 15! But they're correct on the soundtrack!

Sheryl Nome dressed in a sort of significantly cut down military uniform sings her second song on stage with artistic blue holographic waves and a pink holographic explosion playing out behind her.
Sheryl Nome’s image, now in some sort of slim summer beach outfit with glowing blue hair, floats large and bright over her concert stage.

In one of my favorite scenes from SDF Macross, fighters from Skull Squadron enter a portion of Saturn's rings that have been plunged into darkness by the shadow cast by one of its moons.

Navigating through the asteroid field conditions in total darkness is dangerous, but it might just give them the element of surprise they need to launch a successful counterattack on the Zentradi forces that have been chasing them ever since they folded away from Earth.

The Giraffe in Revue Starlight is an otherworldly force that tempts actresses to the stage. It bestows talent and fame on some while taking it from others. It demands they give their all to secure tenuous careers but will then instead reward gifted newcomers. It wishes above all things to see the unexpected whether that’s a tale of heartwarming teamwork to pull off a show or the bitter tragedy of a stage girl losing her passion for acting.

It is... the audience. It is you.
