#Celtic#FairyTaleTuesday: #Tara was once reigned by a Wolf King. According to legend, #Cormac mac Art was the High King of Ireland at the same time as #Fionn mac Cumhaill was the leader of the #Fianna, c. the third century AD. He ruled from Tara for forty years, and during his reign, all of #Ireland flourished.

This is what Ali Isaac felt at Tlachtga: „I found myself walking the ditches as if drawn along them, almost as if they were processional walkways, rather than defensive structures. The experience left me feeling dizzy and head-achy. It was much like walking through a maze. In the ditches, the banks are still high enough that the view is completely obliterated. There was nothing to do save look at one’s feet and think. Or meditate. Or contemplate. Until one gravitated to the top of the central mound and was smacked in the chops with that view over the land.“ She found herself drawn along the ditches between the embankments, and experienced a kind of sensory deprivation until she arrived at the top. #Celtic

#Tara, and other ‘royal sites’ in #Ireland, were approached by a a specific, specially constructed ritual processional walkway. At Tara, this walkway is called the Teach Miodchuarta, meaning ‘banqueting hall’ in English, because the site was originally interpreted as the royal residence of Ireland’s high kings. It was thought that it was here the king would have held his feasts. We now know this is not the case.#Celtic

#Celtic#FairyTaleTuesday: According to ‘The Destruction of Da Derga’s Hostel’ the poet dreamed the future king would arrive in #Tara naked and surrounded by birds. Young #Conaire Mór was out hunting birds, when the leader of the flock suddenly threw off his feathers and revealed himself as the King of Birds, and Conaire’s true father. He advised Conaire of the details of the new prophecy, whereupon the young man immediately removed his clothes and set off for Tara accompanied by the Bird King and his flock. Thus the prophecy was fulfilled.

Took child 1 down to the docks in #Galway to check out the #Tara, a scientific vessel that’s travelled all over the world, including across the North Pole and up the Amazon river! We got a lil tour, 15 mins about the boat and its history and mission and then another 15 mins breaking down the process of collecting data, sampling and analysing seawater. Kid was incredibly into it (he’s an avid #Octonauts fan after all) and well able to follow it – impressed and delighted for the lil 5yo tyke.
#Celtic#FairyTaleTuesday: Also known as the Coronation Stone, and the Stone of Destiny, it was said the cry of the Lia Fail confirmed the coronation of the rightful High King of #Ireland when his feet were placed upon it, and that its roar was heard throughout the land. The #LiaFail stands at the top of the Hill of #Tara (Teamhair na Ri in #Irish), near the River Boyne in Co Meath.
„The magical powers of the Lia Fail were said to have rejuvenated the rightful High King of #Ireland, and gifted him with a long reign. In fact, the Tuatha de Danann revered the #LiaFail so much, they named Ireland Inis Fail after it.“
