Bright Beltane Blessings folks! Hail the Green Man! Today I've planted seeds, fixed up a bird/bee box and will be breaking bread and mead tonight. We'll also light our new garden candles. Pictures later... Enjoy the day! #beltane#mayday#mayday2023#paganism#greenman
Happy Beltane to everyone celebrating 🔥 #Beltane or #Bealtaine is a Gaelic festival set at the midway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. It marks the beginning of #summer when cattle are driven out to the summer pastures. According to two early medieval Old Irish texts, #druids would make two fires "with great incantations" and drive the cattle between them to protect them from disease. Bonfires are still lit on Beltane today.
The way we see the world shapes the way we treat it. If a mountain is a deity, not a pile of ore; if a river is one of the veins of the land, not potential irrigation water; if a forest is a sacred grove, not timber; if other species are biological kin, not resources; or if the planet is our mother, not an opportunity -- then we will treat each other with greater respect. Thus is the challenge, to look at the world from a different perspective. ~David Suzuki
People rag on David Suzuki all the time but he is correct. He was raised in a tiny mountain town not too far from where I live. The land is alive and when you grow up running in the forest, wading in the rivers and lakes, wandering the wild flower meadows, you understand the spirit world is real, alive and part of you.
