First all the bs with Twitter and Elon, then Reddit having an exodus to Lemmy (not complaining lol), then Twitch. Are we like, in an alternate self healing dimension or something?
Cities are pouring millions of dollars into making safe bike lanes to enable more of us to use a bicycle for transportation. But there's an underappreciated barrier for many people -- there's no safe place to store their bike at home. This can be a huge problem for millions of people who live in smaller apartments and flats...
I've been wanting to get a proper microscope so I can do my own spore examinations to identify local fungi but it's been out of budget. This looks like a much more affordable option so now off to find some plexiglass and laser pointers at the dump.
My partner and I made this wee tunnel house out of dumped hothouse plastic, old vineyard netting, polypipe we found in the forest, and old fence posts. We had to buy some timber for the framing and zip ties to hold the materials together but we got to make use of so many dumped materials....
Is there a way to shop around for a Lemmy instance based on how many instances are blocking it and how many instances it's blocking? For example, I noticed that the lemmygrad.ml instance is relatively popular, but it seems like a lot of other instances block it. It also blocks a bunch of other instances. So, if there are any...
U might want to take a look at the federation map. It might be a bit overwhelming but in the settings on the bottom left you may chose blocked and allowed in order to get some insights on who federates with whom.
i see - yes that confused me.. But more interestingly - I see itjust.works is up and running! Just read in a comment that the owner was looking for names. Seems like he found something good xD
It's easy to discover communities on my instance via the dedicated page in the hamburger menu. But let's say I want to follow a community on another instance, such as !lemmy . I might have found its name mentioned in a post or comment. When I click on the provided link, I'm thrown on that instances web page, from which I of...
okay so this post just got me interested and i tried to connect to a community i found on the community browser. However i can't seem to connect to that community through the normal lemmy-ui. Is this due to slow federation. Or am i doing something wrong?
edit: okay just found out that that exact instance was blocked by mine :D
I falsely assumed the community browser would only show allowed instances.
Some people might find the answer to be obvious (yes) but I've rarely found it so. In fact, this is a question I often find in the linux community (regarding linux going mainstream, not lemmy) and people are pretty split upon it....
