Thanks for the advice, everyone! My legacy blueberry plant is going strong, and my sunshine one isn’t far behind! I can’t wait to pick them, how will I know when they’re ready? I imagine they’ll need to darken in color a little bit and shed the little brown flower petal bits, right?
I’m in the PNW! I am also very surprised to see them so early… I thought they would be ready closer to like end of July. We have lots of very happy bees around our neighborhood and my neighbors also grow lots of fruits, so maybe that helped?
Hi all! I got a weeping cherry bonsai from my mom today and am really excited. I’ve always wanted to get into bonsai, but I’ve heard they are extremely difficult to care for so I’ve been a little hesitant. Well, now I’ve got one and I would very much like it to thrive. Any advice? It says it wants 8-12 hours of direct...
Basically the question above. My legacy plant growing in the same pot is doing just fine, but the Sunshine seems to be struggling. We’ve been getting a lot of rain lately so I haven’t been watering as much, is it just thirsty? Should I give it some fertilizer? I’m in Zone 8a and planted them about two weeks ago....
So I have never had this dish! Most dishes I cook I have tasted a variant of it so I know how it should taste when I make it, but Cajun/Creole/Louisiana food in general is something I’ve never had the pleasure of trying first hand but the spices always look really tasty. Does anyone have a good recipe to share with me, with...
We’re camping at Orcas, got a room at that hotel at Paradise in Rainier, and got season tickets to West Seattle FC. Also looking forward to my Dub Sea Fish Sticks....
My sister is visiting the state for the first time, so I’m taking her to do some of the touristy stuff (Pike Place, Starbucks reserve, mopop, etc), but I’m trying to think of some great places to take her outside of that scene! We’ll spend a day or two in Fremont, but she’s not 21 yet so bars are off the table. Any suggestions? Maybe an orca tour? I don’t really get out much, so I’m not sure where all the fun non-bar things are!
I love making salad dressings from scratch, and also love eating hummus but I make very small amounts of these things. I also plan to move soon and will be donating most of my kitchen stuff when I do, so I’d like something that could be well loved by a new owner. Is there anything out there that fits the bill? Or even better...
I’m looking for anything out there that could help me navigate grocery stores in Japan? Maybe an Anki deck for food labels with proper kanji? I’ll be there for a period of time later this year and while my conversational skills are okay, I don’t know that I could grocery shop! I’ve got Genki 1 and 2 and some vocab cards...
It might be a minority view, but I loved Jonas Quinn’s character! Why? Because he made Teal’c a fully fledged [/edit] character. The both of them interacted so well. Teal’c was part of the main cast since episode one, but he never felt like a real person with their own emotions until season 6....
I also liked Jonas Quinn, but it took a second rewatch to get over the guy wrenching despair I endured at Daniel’s death/ascension. Absolutely gutted me, I was too mad to enjoy Jonas after that. But after the second time I agree, Teal’c became more with him than he did when Daniel was part of the team. Part of me wonders if it was intentional on the writers part, like “oh we have this big gap where character was, let’s fill it with two characters instead of just replacing one”? Or if it was just kind of naturally their interactions were more fluid.
I’m in Season 2 of my rewatch of SG1 and Christopher Judge’s acting gets me every time. Seeing Teal’c with O’Neill’s personality is just so weird and jarring. What’s everyone’s favorite episode when the actor has to be someone different? Either a swap or like when Jack is inhabited by the organisms from the...
I absolutely love Michael Shanks! Daniel Jackson was my favorite character for most of my first watch. I can’t wait to get to that one, definitely one of the ones where the actor really gets to flex his skills.
Thanks for the suggestions for the tuna recipes! I just wanted to share that I made some of them and will be making more next week. So far I’ve made a few different adjustments to my onigiri, adding gochujang, kimchi or both. I also had a rice bowl topped with tuna and pickled ginger, and made my very first tuna melt with...
Is it just me or does anyone else feel like Thunderstruck by AC/DC would be totally fitting as Thor’s ship lowered over Heru’ur’s ship? I’m doing a rewatch and taking notes as I go on their writing choices and this episode just makes me so psyched. What a cool introduction to the level of technology the Asgard possess....
Not sure if this is quite what you’re looking for, but I like getting the O’food gochujang bottles. They’re convenient cause you can just pop the cap and squirt a little onto whatever you’re making for some fermented spice. Also everything from The Japanese Pantry has been absolutely amazing! I get my soy sauce and sesame oil from them. Siete Enchilada sauces are awesome, I’ll pour half a jar of either the red or green into enchilada/taco soup. Or even simmer some jackfruit in it for tacos.
When I’m feeling lazy, I’ll sometimes mix a jar of Muir Glenn tomato sauce into one of my jars of marinara I make from scratch to double up.
I keep seeing capers, what are they like? Are they similar to olives? I’ve never had anything with capers before, but I like dill, pickles, olives of all kinds so it seems like it’s up my alley
I absolutely love all things mushrooms, particularly exploring all the edible varieties I can find and trying them! Thing is, I live in the city and am the only one in my house who eats mushrooms (no one else likes having them in the house, let alone on a plate!) so I was wondering if anyone had any advice for 1) where to find a...
