CanadaPlus,

I’m really curious why this is the only tree like this. If you told me to design one this is probably what I’d come up with, albeit with fewer layers. Maximum coverage, minimum leaves.

CanadaPlus,

Bach >> Beethoven.

Fight me.

CanadaPlus,

Hmm, what percentage of his stuff was written for organ, I wonder? Wikipedia says that was his claim to fame while still alive, and there’s an instrument that still holds up.

CanadaPlus,

Not to be rude, but hah.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

We know as well as anyone that math is the study of questions we can answer exactly, but which often aren’t very important. If you want to talk about something desperately meaningful talk to a philosopher (and keep talking, zing!).

Right now Platonism is the dominant way of thinking about pure math, and in it’s lens the questions are treated as literally separate from the material world.

CanadaPlus,

You wanna go mate? I’ll baroque your back. /s

CanadaPlus,

There’s an allowed margin of error, too. If they happen to have gram-level precision, but have 10g leeway for a given product, this might be a good way to save scrape out a bit more margin.

CanadaPlus,

Yeah, the current era is already on the way out. Maybe a new one will begin, though. Even probably, at least for Gulf-reliant Europe, looking at how the Middle East is currently being mishandled.

Just sounds like a rich dude to me. Like, I think this is the main reason he’s unpopular, but aristos often keep a harem and Diana herself seems overrated.

CanadaPlus, (edited )

Did he? I didn’t know about that. So, just white people then.

V, for anyone wondering. And there might be a William V in Luxembourg too, so I eagerly await the two getting mixed up in amusing ways.

Or, alternatively, he could go with his “Louis” or “Arthur” middle names, which would be good for different jokes.

The descriptivist's dilemma (discuss.tchncs.de)

spoileralt text: A two panel comic. In the first panel there are two buttons labeled “I don’t believe in prescriptivism” and “‘Literally’ cannot mean ‘figuratively’”. A finger hovers between the buttons. In the second panel, the finger’s owner is sweating and wiping his brow, unable to decide.

CanadaPlus,

Yeah, actual usefulness is where I draw the line for descriptivism, I guess.

CanadaPlus,

Knowledge for who? The general public would be pissed if they had to watch the sausage being made.

CanadaPlus,

*Some of the US government. Deb who does accounting for NIST doesn’t know it (of course); many top officials refuse to know it. Experts who deal with the Middle East know it, and at least some of them are tearing out their hair over it.

Overall I guess you could say they know it, but let’s not pretend this is a well-thought-out approach they’re executing. It’s a lobby-fueled clusterfuck, and it’s probably going to blow up in their face.
