Hello. I am wondering, how can you see how many active users an instance has? I'm sure I have seen a screen that shows that info, but now I can't find it....
I'm really getting confused, as a person leaving Reddit. If the largest lemmy instances are lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, beehaw.org, and lemmygrad.ml, and the big draw to Lemmy in the first plaace is the interconnectivity, right? And yet Beehaw just defederated lemmy.world, we're over here talking about defederating lemmy.ml and everyone wants to defederate lemmygrad. Is it fair to say that the whole push for everyone to migrate to Lemmy is already falling apart one whole day after the blackout? It feels like being pointed at a huge, distibuted universe of content and looking up on day one to see a bunch of walled off little half-empty mini-reddits instead.
Im being hyperbolic of course, but the whole defederating thing seems like a step backward from any kind of critical mass.
Didnt you know? Sitting at home in your underwear with a beer, googling and watching YouTube is the equivalent of 6-12 years of higher education and decades of in depth, concentrated, heavily funded, peer reviewed research. Totally the same thing.
I confess, I'm not the fastest reader. When browsing on the desktop site, I don't have enough time to scan the headlines and choose something to click on before the page refreshes and everything changes. Can this be turned off?
I can't get past feeling like iOS is more like Baby's First SmartPhone™ OS. I can get it if you're buying something for a child, or like your elderly parents or something, but it's all just too rigid, too simple, too walled in, and basically designed to keep unsavvy users from breaking anything. It's like the child-proof cap of operating systems. Android phones are more open, flexible, granular, varied and innovative. I just don't see myself ever switching.
what does it mean that Beehaw "defederated" from lemmy.world?
I thought I understood, but I still have Beehaw content in my feed, so I guess I don't understand after all... Can someone dumb it down for me?
How do you see how many users an instance has (and two other questions)

This time they really mean it why they scream about the climate. Disgreegard what they said previously over the past 60 plus years (preview.redd.it)
Is there a way to stop my homepage from automatically updating?

Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?
Everyone has their preferences, I would love to hear why you guys prefer using Android!
