I would assume latency, but couldn’t that be solved by larger pre caching in clients? Of course interaction and authentication...

Short lived governements are a feature, not a bug. By removing power from the prime minister italians tried to avoi having issues like in the 1930’s with strong leaders getting too much of it.
The contradiction is in the claim that the vocal minority is significant. One could argue that the lack of mainstream distros not using systemd is an indicator of the lack of a significant population against it.
