Emotional_Series7814,

Not right now, considering there’s an issue open on codeberg proposing the ability to do this.

Obsidian: Syncing Your Thinking with Syncthing (biscotty.online)

Syncthing is free, open source software that can be used to easily synchronize an Obsidian vault between your computer and phone/tablet. Not only free, but completely secure, private, and blazing fast. Here are links to an article I wrote explaining how to use it....

Emotional_Series7814,

It’s kind of frustrating that Reddit and Discord don’t want to do anything with us. It would help numbers-wise, but no, stay on Discord which is bad for searching and Reddit where we tried to have an exodus from. Now all the content is on Reddit and all we have is reposts. Which encourages people to go crawling back to Reddit if they want content and aren’t hardcore principled about staying off.

Which includes me: I keep trying to be active on the Fediverse and to help it grow, but there are lots of niche communities there that don’t exist here. I’d make them myself but I’m very much not cut out for a moderation role.

I know I should make more content myself. However, I’m not seeing much drama in my hobbies right now despite heavily immersing myself in them. I could actively look for drama in hobbies I don’t participate in to write up here, but honestly I don’t feel like it.

Emotional_Series7814,

I forgot to say this in my original comment: the extremely frustrating part is that they did protest. They shut down the sub on Reddit. But they won’t do the actual effective way to hurt Reddit: by moving to its alternatives, and/or helping those who moved.

I get it, it’s just Reddit, it’s not like going to the website is breaking a real picket line workers made to get better wages, but it’s still frustrating.

Emotional_Series7814,

I do not use any plugins, so I don't know where you are going wrong. I can tell you how to get left-aligned math when you use $$...$$ blocks though!

Emotional_Series7814,

How expensive is it to get started and how would you get started?

I created a new migration tool for Reddit users moving to Lemmy! (github.com)

This tool lets you migrate your own posts from any subreddit to any Lemmy community you want, I made it because I couldn’t find anything else that did it the way I wanted to. I’m super happy how it turned out, I managed to get 9 years worth of posts over this way…...

Emotional_Series7814,

Pretty much, except this doesn’t have a hilarious lawsuit.

Making matters worse for Carlsen, Niemann embarrassed Carlsen by playfully taunting him during his post-match interview. Notorious for his inability to cope with defeat, Carlsen snapped. Enraged that the young Niemann, fully 12 years his junior, dared to disrespect the “King of Chess,” and fearful that the young prodigy would further blemish his multi-million dollar brand by beating him again, Carlsen viciously and maliciously retaliated against Niemann by falsely accusing Niemann, without any evidence, of somehow cheating during their in-person game and demanding that the organizers of the Sinquefield Cup immediately disqualify Niemann from the tournament.

—Page 3

Niemann’s a native English speaker so there’s no funny, overly aggressive fail at English to laugh at like with Tigran Petrosyan, but this is really self-aggrandizing in the most entertaining way.

I’m not into Lolita fashion myself, but this seems a similar to a discussion I saw about Dungeons & Dragons. Why spend all that time homebrewing a bunch of new systems and rules for situations when there’s another TTRPG system that already has systems and rules for those situations? Because some peoples’ enjoyment comes from tinkering with an existing product, adding onto it. They also get a starting point instead of having to build a whole new TTRPG, design and sew an entire new dress, for themselves. For some, it’s easier to see a pretty dress and change it to fit yourself than it is to think of a design for a pretty dress you’ll love as much. It’s easier to start a Dungeons & Dragons campaign and add on rules to tack onto it than to come up with a whole new campaign or rule set yourself, or to come up with the same campaign idea with the other TTRPG’s world as a basis.

First knitting post from beginner knitter (i.imgur.com)

Hi! I just learnt how to knit a couple months ago, when I started to attend a meetup group with my mom. I learned to crochet in school, but I always failed to learn knitting, maybe because I’m left handed?. But something clicked now that I’m an adult and I’m hooked. I’m mostly taking on smaller projects like hats and...

Emotional_Series7814,

Seconding. Learned to knit poorly with my grandmother, and crochet was very hard to figure out. All the videos I watched did not work out because the tutorial maker’s hands kept blocking what I needed to see. Maybe I should look back into crochet again.

Emotional_Series7814,

I do appreciate the reposter’s intentions, but if I was a newcomer and not someone who understands they’re doing it because there’s no content here, just one person posting all the time would turn me off immediately.

Emotional_Series7814,

I can definitely say I’ve messaged the mods on r/HobbyDrama about maybe giving us some support, official backing, and it’s been 11 days with no reply. I’ll encourage anything that helps us grow and maybe have people post their content both on Reddit and here.

I tried to put my tasks all in Obsidian, but I eventually moved to Apple Reminders. Reminders sends me notifications about the task. Maybe Obsidian can, too, with a plug-in, but I don’t want to fuss with that. I also had problems entering a task in Obsidian on my computer and then having it show up on my phone quickly or vice versa, whereas (because I have both an iPhone and Mac) this is not a problem with Apple Reminders. Again, may be solvable with a plug-in but I don’t particularly feel like looking for a plug-in for something like this, no matter how irrational that feeling is.

Last time I checked, Reminders doesn’t have markdown support, and I’m not even sure if it lets me make line breaks. Not great for tasks that I need to write lots of detail about. But those tasks are usually far and few between, because I tend to write down the immediate next step to big tasks instead of writing down the big task and all the details I have to know about it.

Emotional_Series7814,

Good to know for PC. I also just checked on my phone and it looks like I can also do line breaks in the notes. Not sure if I misremembered things or if they added this as a feature recently.

Emotional_Series7814,

Judging by the reception of the recent posts, you might want to space out when you make a HobbyDrama repost a little more.

I actually just tried doing more > copy link to fediverse on your comment. When I followed the link, I got kicked to the login page for kbin.social. I tried this with other peoples’ comments and it seems to be a direct link to the original server the comment was posted on. This does not help me bring content from other servers to my own, given we currently do not have the feature Mastodon does of pasting in the URL from somewhere else on the Fediverse and Mastodon force-pulls it in.

What do you mean /d/kbin.social?

I’m getting frustrated because I’ve already mentioned knowing about following magazines on other instances to guarantee seeing posts made after I subscribe multiple times. You keep bringing it up. Is it because you’re trying to say there are no other viable solutions, especially for the cases I brought up in my previous reply?

Thanks for the links!

Also, your username, somewhat cause for concern on a knitting community. Are you okay?

Your username also makes me hope you might know the answer to this question. Sometimes after I’ve been knitting for awhile, continuing makes individual fingers feel the same thing as when you purposely flex your knuckles. Is this normal, a sign I should stop, a sign my technique is wrong, or something else?

Thank you again for your help!

Emotional_Series7814,

Yes, but what item to knit for charity is my problem.

Emotional_Series7814, (edited )

Thank you!

The infographic link is broken for me, but the link you get when you excise all the Diwru8eiIrKw37 stuff from it, https://blog.weareknitters.com/knitters-life/hand-exercises-for-knitters/, works. The infographic is located inside the article.

Emotional_Series7814,

I did not consider that, thank you so much!
