When I find some time this week I'll post a run-down on my website on how each of the 37 participating countries went and where to from here.

In the meantime, can I issue a plea to take a deep breath and employ some nuance when discussing the result. One of the reasons I joined Mastodon was because I was sick of the toxicity on Twitter and other social media sites, and I'm disappointed to see echoes of it here. Take it elsewhere, please.

I'm often disappointed at how skewed the public's vote is. Say what you like about juries, but they usually spread the votes more evenly. There were some countries that really didn't deserve the very low televote they received.

Some thoughts on the running order.

  • Sorry to see Austria opening, but my guess is they didn't do as well in the semi-final as people hoped.

  • Finland has a great spot, changing the pace after three ballads. I'm a bit worried that Czechia in particular will be forgotten in its wake.

  • Lithuania will be a palate-cleanser after Germany: those who find it too abrasive will welcome a familiar-sounding song. Same for Sweden after Spain.
