Wenn ich Sozialwissenschaftlerin mit Klima-Interesse wäre, würde ich jetzt versuchen, so viele Leute wie möglich zu finden, die da in Griechenland evakuiert werden mussten oder gar nicht anreisen konnten, & bitten, an einer Längsschnittbefragung teilzunehmen, um rauszufinden, ob das ihre Meinung zu Klimakrise, Flugreisen etc. verändert ... das dürfte ne einmalige Chance für so ein Sample sein ...

Sehr cool: perfekt erhaltene Mikrofossilien aus der rätselhaften "boring billion", als auf der Erde (scheinbar) praktisch nix passierte.

Außerdem gehörten die Organismen schon zur "deep biosphere" tief in der Erdkruste. D.h. das Leben hatte die Erde schon vor 1,5 Milliarden Jahren buchstäblich infiltriert.

Frage einer Reporterin: "um wie viel müsste man denn die CO2 Emissionen senken, damit die bereits verursachte Erwärmung wieder rückgängig gemacht wird?"

Ich glaube die Frage hat dem interviewten Klimaforscher körperliche Schmerzen bereitet. Er hat dann leider sehr beherrscht geantwortet.

I want to start a new writing project, but most sites have options for a frankly excessive amount of photos, between profile photos and header/cover images and logos, and there are so many font options and background colors, and it's very overwhelming for someone with no vision. I just want to write words! And have people actually read them!

If you're sighted, how important are visual things like this to you? Are they determining factors in how willing you are to read something? Pls advise.

@greengaybles There are two different issues here. On one hand your site needs a clear visual identity, because that's how sighted people recognize and remember places. On the other hand, since you intend to write texts, you need an easily readable font and little visual clutter. So you should take profile pic, header and color scheme seriously, logo is optional in my view, pick a standard font and skip the rest, IMO.

Bin letzte Woche nicht dazu gekommen, was zu der Geschichte mit den angeblich 300.000 an gestorbenen auf Zypern zu schreiben.

Also kurz gesagt, das ist vermutlich eine völlig übertriebene Zahl, aber der Anstieg der Fälle scheint real zu sein. Es gibt auch anderswo im Mittelmeerraum Indizien dafür, dass FIP ungewöhnlich häufig auftritt.

FIP steht für Feline Infektiöse Peritonitis und ist selbst mit Behandlung oft tödlich. Ursache der FIP ist eine eigentlich harmlose Infektion mit einem Katzen-Coronavirus, das eine Darmerkrankung auslöst und extrem weit verbreitet ist. Auf Zypern scheint jetzt eine neue Variante des Virus zu grassieren, die sehr ansteckend ist. Allerdings ist FIP ein bisschen rätselhaft, und deswegen ist unklar, was da eigentlich passiert.

Das Problem dabei ist: wenn die spontane Verhaltensänderung des Virus die ganze Geschichte wäre, gäbe es keine Ausbrüche von FIP, sondern immer nur statistisch verteilte Fälle. Deswegen steckt da wohl mehr hinter. Es scheint (neben den zwei Serotypen) verschiedene Varianten des Katzen-Coronavirus mit unterschiedlichen Eigenschaften zu geben, die mit FIP zusammenhängen.

Das Virus für sich genommen ist nicht die Ursache der Krankheit, FIP entsteht nur in einem Bruchteil der Fälle. Man geht davon aus, dass das Virus dauerhaft im Darm der Katzen residiert und dann irgendwie sein Verhalten ändert. Meistens geht man davon aus, dass dahinter zufällige Mutationen stehen, aber so ganz bin ich davon nicht überzeugt. Auf jeden Fall beginnt das Virus, sich in Immunzellen zu vermehren, und greift verschiedene Organe, darunter das Nervensystem, an.
