The number of people unable to retire is a new development. It used to be much lower.

The most horrifying thing about Tesla is buried in this already horrifying article:

The employee training the company offers is “woefully inadequate,” Reveal reported in its investigation. Turley told me she was never taught how to do her job and only shown videos that included a history of the plant and information about Tesla, but nothing about the work she would be doing. “You pretty much have to learn from the people that’s in there,” she said. Cleon Waters also said in his filing that he was never given any training for his job assembling parts of car motors. California safety regulators cited Tesla eight times for deficient training between 2013 and 2018.

Teslas are being built by people with no training. Never get in one.

Man, the American legislature is so boring compared to this. It needs more brawls.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The Italian legislature regularly gets into brawls too.

The outlet is owned by Bari Weiss. It’s a bunch of right-wing bullshit.

You guys are all speculating that he’s dead. I’m thinking Harlan Crow was getting frisky and had Clarence get out the knee pads.

How soon before we find out that this person was an avid Andrew Tate listener?

Australia has very good mental healthcare, but people slip through the cracks.

Australia also has very strong gun control laws after a massacre that killed a huge number of people, so these mass killings are few and far between.

This may be the wrong place to ask, but- Does anyone know of a reputable service that would turn a decades-old print book into an eBook?

In the 1980s, my father wrote a book that an analysis and annotation of another well-known book which is now in the public domain. My family owns the rights to this annotation (we checked with the press that put it out). I think it would make a really good eBook if someone wanted to scan it all in, digitize it, and turn all the...

Thanks. Can you recommend a reputable one?

Ah, yeah, not in Portugal. But I appreciate you giving me a direction to look in, thank you!

I didn’t bother reading past the insult.

I am a “terminally online Lemmy user” because I am very sick. I just got back from the Mayo Clinic a couple of weeks ago. I don’t get out much. I’m sorry that offends you.

I’m getting really tired of explaining this.

FlyingSquid,

Once again, did not read past the insult. Not interested.

Remember what you like. Just don’t expect to keep insulting people and get away with it if the mods notice.

So what is the proper implementation?

Laws.

How do you make this “worker owned” be more than on paper platitude?

Enforce the laws.

It sucks a lot less than anything else ever implemented.

How do you know this? Do you know everything else ever implemented in all of human history?

Or do you mean it sucks a lot less than what was implemented, badly, in the 20th century?

Because I think you mean the latter.

If only there were ways to value assets for tax purposes.

Too bad that’s 100% impossible.

Capitalism does its best to try an make sure that greedy actions also result in benefits for society.

That’s absolutely hilarious. No it doesn’t. Greedy actions are rewarded. See every person on the above list.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk have not benefited society. They have drained from it.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Why are Musk or Bezos needed for any of those things? How did they help in specific? Did they design the cars or the rockets? Did they create the products on Amazon or the algorithms?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

“You can’t do what they did, therefore no one can” is spurious reasoning.

unannounced pelvic examinations for anesthetized women.

Those would not be between doctor and patient, would they? They would just be a unilateral decision by the doctor.

Do you have a better example?

In the extreme case, is assisted suicide on the table?

Sure, why not?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You said ‘in the extreme case.’ The extreme case would be something like the teenager either living three or for years in agony or ending their life with dignity. Why should that teenager be forced to live in agony for those three years?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

How do you know all of this? From where did you get your pharmacology degree?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

In other words, you have no actual academic expertise in this area and are playing armchair doctor.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You could be, but given the chance to say if you had any medical expertise in this area, you declined. That’s not my fault.

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, that’s the issue. Believable. Because anyone could figure out who you are if you said something like “I have a biology doctorate.”

But you clearly don’t have any expertise in this area and you can’t even admit it.
