HolyFriedFish,

I have no intention of using either, but I’d rather pay 50¢ to have less data sold to third parties. Although the app you linked also says it contains ads, so I’m not sure its play store page is accurate.

HolyFriedFish,

This is what I came to suggest! I love Tasker! It definitely can feel daunting when you first start out, but there are lots of guides and tutorials out there to help.

Connect 1.0.131 Released

Hi, I wanted to get more into theme and customization improvements but a lot of great feature requests came up and I ended up just implementing those instead. I might need a better system to compile release notes soon as in the past week there have been 11 beta releases and it’s a bit tedious to go through each to compile the...

HolyFriedFish,

I love Connect more with every update!

I’m not sure this is the place to put a question/request but I actually quite liked NSFW images being a single block of color. The blur is perfectly fine, but it would be nice to have an option for a color block over NSFW images. Part of the reason I switched to Connect from Jerboa is that Jerboa’s blur was so bad, I could see explicit things through it. Connect’s is much better, so it’s not necessary to get a color block option.

Anyway there’s my two cents. Thank you for all the work you’ve done on this app - it really is incredible to me how much has been done, and how well it works.

how is this sync price point real?

So I tried sync to see what all the rage was. Doesn’t seem that different really from connect imo. I’m posting this with connect since sync can’t seem to do basic functions like post to communities (really?!!) but they made sure to implement big blocks where “sponsored content” will soon be shown. I figured I’d pay a...

HolyFriedFish,

To be honest, the data collection was enough to keep me on Connect instead of Sync. With that being said, I was excited for the release of Sync. It wasn’t my primary app on Reddit, but having developers for Lemmy apps is great, and the developers who had successful Reddit apps already have a solid idea of what to do. Sync is not finished, so there are valid complaints to be made! But it also already looks more polished than Connect in many ways, in my opinion.

In terms of the price point, I don’t actually think it’s unreasonable. There’s a one-time lifetime purchase available, and as I understand it the app is being developed by a single developer trying to support himself. I get that the price might be outside of some people’s casual spending range, but luckily there’s a free version with ads (and many, many other free apps without).

HolyFriedFish,

This is exactly why I haven’t downloaded it - I was looking forward to Sync for Lemmy, and I’ve been using Connect in the meantime. But Connect doesn’t collect any data, according to Google Play, and Sync does. I’m on the fence about paying to keep my data my own, at this point.

HolyFriedFish,

Except for data shared in the moments before I purchase, sure. Which is what leaves me on the fence, to be honest. Hopefully there will be more info about how this is handled soon.

HolyFriedFish,

I wish I could, but I’m in the US. And on the Google Play store it says data can’t be deleted, so I’m assuming that since I’m not in the EU, there will be no leniency for me. The more I think about it, the less I want to deal with it, personally. With that being said, I recognize that not everyone will agree with me, and of course that’s perfectly fine.

Issue with filtering

I have recently been having an issue where filters are applied, not by me, while I’m browsing in Connect. Entire communities are showing no posts with the message, “Empty because all posts are being filtered”. There are no filters turned on in the settings that I can see. Many comments are also hidden due to filters,...

HolyFriedFish,

Have you checked your block list? I believe someone else recently discovered they accidentally blocked an entire instance, or something along those lines.

HolyFriedFish,

Absolutely! I’m glad it helped!

Issue with nsfw material in feed

So this post from lemmynsfw.com just popped up in my feed. It is not tagged as nsfw although it obviously is. I have tried attaching a screenshot but Jerboa throws an error. I have nsfw material turned off in my account settings, so this wouldn’t happen if the post would be tagged properly. I’m using Jerboa. I could just ban...

HolyFriedFish,

There was a post recently about NSFW tags possibly not federating properly, and I wonder if that might be what you’re running into.

In terms of a real, solid solution, I don’t know what the best course of action is. But as a band-aid solution, you could try an app that allows for in-app server blocking. Lemmy itself doesn’t allow users to block an entire server, but Connect at least (and probably others) allow it on the app side. But it wouldn’t help on anything other than the app, so it’s definitely not the ideal solution.

HolyFriedFish,

I also bought dimming stickers. I can’t tell you why everyone uses them, of course, but I bought stickers rather than using tape for a couple of reasons. The main one is that there are some lights that indicate information I still want to get. Our fan has LEDs to indicate current speed, my wireless phone charger has a light to indicate that it detects the phone. That information is good, and I want it! Just not as brightly as the manufacturer wants to give it to me, so I put stickers that dim about 75% and they’re perfect. The other big reason, for me, is that I simply find the stickers more aesthetically pleasing. Even if I want to block the light fully, rather than just dim it, a little circular sticker looks nicer to me than a piece of tape.

HolyFriedFish,

I’ve been using these, but I’m sure there are many other choices that are just as good!
