Iowa City Animal Control busted Johnson County puppy farm, a USDA licensed dog kennel.

The owner of the farm, Loren Yoder (pictured), was charged with 41 counts of animal neglect. The animals were being housed in hot, dirty conditions.

Nine of the 131 dogs surrendered by Johnson County puppy farm died, while the rest were adopted out. Veterinarians reported myriad issues including severely matted hair, fleas, eye discharge, dental diseases, and yeast infections.

Iowa is one of the big dogs in animal mills. According to USDA data, Iowa dog and cat breeders committed 107 of the 303 federal violations cited in the first quarter of 2023.

Photos of the dogs are NOT in the puppy mill - as far as I can tell, no photos of the mill were taken, likely due to it being private property. These dogs are all in temporary pop-up rescues.
