The social psychology of card reader location. Local buses in most parts of the country have their card readers on the opposite side of the aisle from the driver.

But in Canterbury they're located next to the driver. Which means even though the driver doesn't have to do anything to receive payment, they're more likely to have interactions with passengers.

@strypey in Canterbury, the driver receives cash payment when an in-person Metrocard topup is made and it requires using the card reader during the transaction. Contrast with Wellington where there is no option to topup Snapper via cash to driver

@strypey I think that was the first MMP election. As I was running both on the list and for an electorate, I needed a body double.
