So, I got excited, and didnโt anticipate well how profound the knot would sit in the handle. The knot is glued in with silicone (maybe a little bit too much), and I would like to rescue both knot and handle without damage....
Try starting with the razor flat against your skin, then increase the angle (with no pressure!) until the razor starts catching the lather. Thatโs the angle you want to keep. Start on the cheeks - where everything is flat, and only go to more demanding areas once you are comfortable on the cheeks with the grain.
I just had this land, but moments ago, in from Spain. Managed to snag this NOS Iberia 14 Doble Temple. Iโm looking forward to giving this thing its first edge.
Iโm continuing (and finishing) my stagging weekend. Itโs still sunny outside, but not as warm as yesterday. The pollen in the air is not impressed by the cold, as my allergies can tell you.
Most artisan soap comes in plastic tubs - though some sell refills (Stirling being among them), which you can store however you like.
I would recommend getting a few samples from Stirling (which are 1 ounce sized): they are good value, and you can test a bit what kind of scent you like. You can also look a bit around here what soaps people are using. I would just recommend avoiding Ariana & Evans, whose soaps have a tendency to provoke fragrance burns.
For beyond basics, I donโt know โ maybe try witch hazel as an after shave?
Temperatures have risen beyond 20 degrees here, but the sun has not come out. Iโve used several times Marduk, and I would assume that I have at the most another 10 shaves in it. A nice soap, but requires heavy loading.
A very good shave - I used a ridiculous amount of soap, which is apparently what is required in order to get a good lather going with hard water. I did something right when honing the Friodur โ trouble is, I donโt quite know what.
Watched it, thanks! Great video, with very helpful illustrations, and you dumbed down the material science to the point where I had the impression understanding ๐
You seem to be on your way to wetstonetube fame - continue the good work!
But you shouldnโt need to do this every shave - if your lather is good, you should be able to rinse it with water, and it should be gone. Otherwise, your lather is too dry.
First: the damage of your razor is probably for the moment only cosmetic, but it will start to corode more easily. But you can wait before you buy something else.
Most razors in this price range will be mostly zamac alloy, which you wonโt hand down to your great grand-children, but will last for years, if properly taken care of.
Some razors are marketed as โtripple chromedโ. Are they any better?
Iโm not aware of any difference in chroming; I would take this as marketing speech (Itโs toasted!). Which are these?
For good DE razors in the 50ยฃ range, check:
Edwin Jagger
Mรผhle
Merkur
All of these also have stainless steel razors.
Anyway: if you have a tendency to drop things, more expensive stainless steel or brass razors will also tend to be heavier. They wonโt break, but they can deform on impact. And they can chip your sink.
How do I pull a silicone-glued knot?
