Centrism is often relative.

Someone who is a ‘centrist’ between the far-right GOP and the centre-right Dems is probably just a shy Republican.

Someone who is a ‘centrist’ by the perceptions of Lemmy could be anyone who isn’t a devotee of Mao, depending on which part of Lemmy you’re talking to.

If memory serves, the bullets often disintegrated into shrapnel in the process of curving out of the barrel, which is probably a mite inconvenient in most situations.

It’s neat, but I wouldn’t want to bet my squad’s survival on it, that’s for damn sure.

There are two options to my thinking:

  1. The cheat was once wealthy, and being stripped of his worldly possessions and humiliated in the arena was considered enough.
  2. As the legal status of combatants in the arena was generally considered to be unfree/enslaved, the fact that he was made into a slave was bad enough (or they sent him to the mines afterwards to work him to death).

Can’t imagine they’d pass up on an opportunity to have him eaten in front of a roaring crowd if they were just gonna kill him!

it really sounds like that voter (or that group of voters) effectively have no choice.

Welcome to being part of a small minority in a democracy; sorry that democracy isn’t utopian and that changing minds requires time and effort. “I want a leader who agrees with all of my positions but I don’t want my positions to have to be popular or supported by a broad swathe of the population to achieve that” is more vanguard politics stuff; democracy isn’t really your speed.
