Wowwww setting up Unreal's enhanced input system in C++ was a pain. Why isn't it added to the build settings by default, since they're demanding we use it over the old one? Makes no sense to me.

@psychicparrot42 My best guess is there's some weird, ancient dependency issue somewhere that compiles strangely because gcc optimizes something in a way that breaks things.

I haven't listened to it yet but apparently Tycho (the PA writer not the astronomer) went on Haus of Decline's podcast to discuss queer themes in PA and that seems potentially fascinating. https://hausofdecline.com/episodes/1/1920856

@Cher @JenYetAgain They ran PAX for about the first decade of it existing. And were the largest gaming comic, especially post CAD meltdown. They knew people in the industry before knowing people in the industry was something people aspired to. They don't have any perceived iconography, because their iconography became the culture. Sorry, and maybe I'm just old, but even if you don't like PA, basically all of modern gaming culture exists in some part because of it.

@JenYetAgain @Cher I'm not saying other things didn't exist, but nothing has the cultural pull that PA did. And things they did and set up still affect us today. Actual plays, the idea of indie games press, extra life, a lot of their smaller campaigns. You can see their influence in basically everything. Whether or not they deserve it another conversation, but they had office space in downtown Seattle before PAX, and that was a big deal.

Tried out Tribes of the Wind tonight and thought it was neat? A bit hard to learn at first, but tons of cool ideas.

It's not exactly a point engine game, but you really have to choose what cards you play to maximize value every turn that evokes similar feelings.

Great art too!

@Wanderbot Have you tried Flotilla? It's in a similar genre and also, yes please give me more kthx.

Hey if you give me a scryfall link to a non french-vanilIa I will give you an absolutely unhinged take about about that card.

Are you planning on getting the upcoming set?

RethinkJeff,
@RethinkJeff@mastodon.social avatar

@Artemis201 Cards are too cheap for LGS's to make money on them, and while I think 7 card booster packs are a bad way to try and increase singles value, I certainly don't fault them for trying it out. I imagine it'll get a poor response similar to set boosters, in spite of a (probable, more information as it arrives) higher card quality to pack ratio.

RethinkJeff,
@RethinkJeff@mastodon.social avatar

@Artemis201 Maybe it was just my particular circle, but I saw so many people complain about set boosters. About price, about number of cards in packs, about the inclusion of list cards(?!?). I'm personally angry about the move to play boosters, because the set booster was just that incredible, but basically all the chatter I saw was mad about them, and excited about them going away in favor of the play booster.

RethinkJeff,
@RethinkJeff@mastodon.social avatar

@Artemis201 This confirms for me it's a personal circle thing lol, because all of the LGS owner conversations I was a part of was me explaining how they product was better haha. I even see people complaining about how Play Boosters are too close to set boosters, and /shrug. Long live the set booster T_T.

RethinkJeff,
@RethinkJeff@mastodon.social avatar

@Artemis201 An example of the weird disconnect I see when people talk about set boosters is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn4f9zhH5G0 . Even though he eventually goes on to give the product an A-, almost all of the descriptions of set boosters are framed in a negative light.

Oh look. Modern Horizons 3 cards are getting revealed and there's another "free spells" cycle. I'm really getting tired of this

  1. WOTC has admitted that one of the primary features of overpowered cards is free/cost reduction
  2. If they put out a new "free" cycle every summer, it really gets tiring. How long until you can build a whole (bad) deck out of free cards?
  3. Of course it's the obligatory free blue counterspell. At least the other colors have variety.
RethinkJeff,
@RethinkJeff@mastodon.social avatar

@Artemis201 I do think these are more fair than other free spells because you have to sac a non-token, but arboreal grazer into free cultivate seems good lol.
