Managed to struggle through Nietzsches Beyond Good and Evil the other day, what a load of shite.
I guess I'm more educated now? The valuable bits could easily be condensed into a couple of paragraphs.

I've been getting into Mark Fishers work recently and thinking a lot about how he managed to pinpoint exactly where art and culture we're headed over 10 years ago.

When all forms of artistic expression are subject to extreme commodification, nothing new ever gets made. Our current media landscape of nothing but remakes and reboots and unwanted sequels is a direct result of neoliberalism.

When Capital directs what kinds of culture is produced, the result is only the safest possible investments are allowed. We only get the blandest, most mediocre pieces of art possible that have the broadest appeal.
This isn't just Hollywood either. It's everything. When decommodified art practically doesn't exist, everything reinforces the neoliberal status quo.

Fishers claim that there are no more cultural eras resonates with me strongly. There's a hauntology and a cyclical nature where nothing is truly new, capital only allows us to create imitations of what has come before
