When I was a kid (as in a proper kid) we were rather poor but could still afford to own a large three room apartment. Sis and I had a bunk bed and we ate cheap food but we we never felt "poor". This was in the 70s.

A couple with the same kind of income level would never be able to own that kind of apartment close to Stockholm these days.

...You can't compare 1:1 tho since back then a worker in a mechanic shop was a poor man's job and now a turner makes more money than many white collar jobs.

(This is important btw, if someone calls themselves "left" but only care about the romantic idea of the "old working class" and don't actually care about income they should be disregarded completely. A welder or a turner most likely have a large house and a BMW or Mercedes these days while a computer support guy makes far less.)

I grew up on a street where pretty much everyone had a brand new car, while we had a series of 20+ year old Volvos and whatever 10 year old french car my dad decided was the one that wouldn't blow up. We had a Saab once, but the turbo exploded after a week.

@avon_deer Seeing all the major left of center parties across Europe all becoming Centrist Liberals at best and Neoliberals at worst is so horrifying.

I've said it before but I am old enough to remember when the Social Democratic party here in Sweden was further to the left than the former Communist party is today. The Social Democrats has not been left of center since the late 90s.

Suddenly last week I started getting tons of emails from for some reason.

Thanks to the of the Internet apparently when a newsletter I once read moved to substack, Substack auto-creates an account for you and start pumping out newsletters. Without consent.

I had to log in, create a profile (thank Artemis only a name was required) and then move into account settings and delete the account.

Not that it matters as soon as i figured out what was going on, but the whole idea is so typical the modern Internet: A newsletter from a forum about movies I once read moves to Substack, and automatically they dig thru all the mail addresses and start sending out crap.

I hadn't even visited that page since Frozen came out, I think. I had completely forgotten about the forum at all.
