@alex I'm wondering: are kind 1 notes not replaceable ever, or is it just something that mostr hasn't implemented for AP-side edits yet?

@raucao There's a few proposals for editable text notes. Either by introducing new kinds or introducing a new "edit" regular kind that can be used to apply event history.

@kirby It was very difficult to get them to comply with the AGPL. I kept pushing for it.

nostr is still mainly used alongside twitter. in the best rare case, as a replacement. and only because people are running away from something about twitter they don't like.

there is nothing that people want to run to nostr for yet. zaps were promising, but bitcoin is still a hurdle (one that primal is doing the best at overcoming), and it's doubtful lightning could scale to a massive adoption moment.

nostr needs a feature or experience that's unique and sets it apart. i think that is the ecosystem of microapps over the long term...but it's definitely not in the short term. and that might be ok.

for twitter the initial draw was the simplicity and weirdness of 140 characters (we started with zero network effect, facebook had it all...that's built over time). later it became the conversation which lead to the "public square" (owned by a private corporation ¯_(ツ)_/¯). and then as it grew, it had a single point of control/failure people could attack.

nostr doesn't have to worry about that last bit. it's an incredible feature. but not one the average person cares about (no matter how much they yell "FREE SPEECH!"...if people actually cared about free speech, bitcoin and nostr would be all they used...they don't).

all this to say, we're not doomed. but what we think is the killer feature isn't right now. who's going to discover the one that is?

But we're building without thinking then surprised when it's unstable ground. None of the libraries work correctly. I've been building all new Nostr libraries from the ground up just to make it do the basic stuff.

@mittimithai @32647d12982548104d6d45d0a8882a@mostr.pub @82341f882b6eabcd2ba7f1ef90aad9@mostr.pub Depending on what language (and the libraries that exist), it's very easy to create events and sign them. It's easy to publish them to a known set of relays.

It's easy to find events by ID on relays.

It's very hard to find the latest events by a particular author from the whole network. It's hard to do this within a reasonable amount of time and without relying on a centralized indexer. The "outbox" model is a chicken and egg problem.

Believe it or not, it's hard to reconnect a websocket and resume a subscription. (Although I did solve that one in my new library.)

I think Nostr has to beat ActivityPub before we can take on the world. The entry level for building is easier on Nostr than ActivityPub. But the advanced level is harder, especially if you want to stay pure. But, I'm determined to do it.

@alex hey would it be possible to bridge WordPress and write freely to nostr nip-23? (And tumblr if they ever federate)

I'm having a problem with 10 minute long SQLite queries after rebooting the operating system, but then it gets fast after everything is loaded the first time. Rebooting the application is also fine, just not the OS.
