Pinning this so hopefully more people see it:
We don't love RSS enough
It's mostly a call-to-action that if you can style your feed, you definitely should so that those unfamiliar with it can be assimilated.

What's completely beyond me is why URL shorteners are even exist and why the heck some people still use them. Forcing people to open some bit.ly/12adf28 BS instead of a readable URL is a security disaster and should be considered absolutely inappropriate.

gabriel,

@vikingkong
Because marketers figured out every additional step or action between the user and hitting "buy now" results in huge amounts of lost revenue. Therefore URLs need to be memorable by a population that doesn't even memorize phone numbers anymore.

Also to harvest analytics to look good on reports for management.

Come aboard the mind machine

This case is particularly noteworthy because it involves a series of requests across different jurisdictions and companies, highlighting the complex interplay between technology firms, user privacy, and law enforcement. The requests were made under the guise of anti-terrorism laws, despite the primary activities of the Democratic Tsunami involving protests and roadblocks, which raises questions about the proportionality and justification of such measures.

gabriel,

Decided to graph proton's transparency report.

This is clipped segments from Nobody Special's live show. I just want to emphasize what he says at the end:

...the capitalists, we gotta start policing this stuff...

I'm curious to hear what should be done to prevent situations like this, and would like to see those involved jailed for what is highly likely illegal in some form already.

As a Canadian, who does live under single-payer, I will add that the same problems that allow this to happen also make the public option worse. No matter what your system is, accountability is crucial.

Great and underrated point.
If somebody wants a great deep-dive on the implications, this lecture is excellent.

Just found this terrifying talk by @internetthought about roaming and emergency calls not working with VoLTE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHjyLmFt-eg

I wonder if things have gotten any better since then...

gabriel,

@Hyolobrika
In Canada carriers / phones are required to be able to contact emergency services regardless of sim/subscription status.

It would be cool if the fediverse or my browser had automatic translation.

gabriel,

@Hyolobrika I think firefox is working on it

gabriel,

@Hyolobrika I doubt it, but maybe? Haven't tried it on mobile.

All League-related subreddits are scrubbing any posts that mention Vanguard in a negative light.

Nothing to see here. There are no bugs in ba sing se.

gabriel,

@r000t if they'll purge something trivial, you can assume the site has anything important completely on lock.
