Here is what I love about tech people. Most of us don’t get old and stop being excited about new things. I don’t know that I’ve ever met a programmer complaining about kids these days.

We tend to be excited for what’s next. As forty looms, I hope I always keep that.

Once or twice my Dad got mad at me growing for spending so much time on the computer and said “are you just gonna spend your whole life on the computer!?”

I can now say confidently that the answer is, yeah, pretty much.

I really want a hybrid multitrack DAW like Logic that can record video at the same time. I don’t know why this isn’t a thing.

I like how since the 1950s — when cigarette filters were introduced — researchers knew they didn't offer any health benefits, the US Surgeon General declared it in the 1970s, and yet they still make cigarettes that way.

If Apple didn’t already have iWork, Final Cut, or Logic, would they make them now? Kind of hard to imagine that kind of investment in new software from them. What even comes close in the last fifteen years?

@ffg @eurobubba they might, although the lack of keyboard support on macOS kind of kills it for me. Either way I wouldn’t put the resources to make that kind of app remotely in the same category as Logic or iWork.

@harpaa01 Yeah, but the kind of resources to make a Freeform are definitely modest compared to those others. That’s not a knock against it, but it’s no Logic or Final Cut or iWork.

The guy who makes this lyric writing app, which is basically the app I would make, has been super responsive to my suggestions, going back and forth with me, and is implementing them in really nice ways.

Turns out it is pretty easy to take an SF Symbol, run it through folderify from Homebrew on the command line, and get something cool like this.
