If the prophet is the mouthpiece of God, and God is all knowing, all loving, and never changing, how do LDS members reconcile the heinously racist and sexist things prophets have said, or terrible things they’ve done?

It can’t be that they were products their time if they’re speaking for God and God never changes.

So if that’s not the case, aren’t you admitting that some of the things they say are made up? And if that was the case, how can you assume any of their revelations are true?

Is Lord Of The Rings the last popular movie trilogy that really nailed it?

I would qualify a trilogy as being three movies which were conceived as being three movies and are telling one story split up across three movies.

By that definition, I can only think of the original Star Wars trilogy and LOTR where all three movies are good and they stick the landing.

@eurobubba I think I saw that one on a list but I haven’t seen those :)

davetron5000,
@davetron5000@ruby.social avatar

@collin that is true but for me the through line elevates the third movie and makes it feel like a more epic story (as compared to The Matrix where the second two feel bolted on and kinda mid)

Stargate is almost like the anti-Star Trek in that they make no attempt to not contaminate every culture they come in contact with. They don’t even bother to go undercover or dress like the people they are going to be meeting.

Vala’s character in Stargate gets much better in season 10. Too bad that’s all she gets 😔

@collin Apt analogy. Were you a Farscape fan? I was just so glad to see her and Browder working together again, I was looking past the first season issues.

@jon_alper I haven’t really seen it much, but I might check it out after this.

I suggested to the creator of Lyrcs he should add a way to put song metadata and chord/section annotations into the app, and within a couple weeks he did!

This is the Lyric writing app I would make myself. It's a real Mac app (iOS too) that uses regular text files, with a rich UI on top of that for embedding song info.

All the basic features are free, although I suggest paying the small pro subscription, because he's done such a great job.

Please boost so the creator of Lyrcs can get the attention he deserves for making such a great app for anyone writing Lyrics or poetry.

If you combined Clips and iMovie, you might have one app that's worthwhile. I don't know why iMovie isn't a superset of Clips.

I don't want to learn Final Cut, I want iMovie to support vertical video and maybe get support for audio plugins that work in GarageBand already.

bjoreman,
@bjoreman@toot.cafe avatar

@collin There is some roundabout way of doing it. I did it a couple of times, then switched to another app (Descript) which is on the whole more annoying but makes vertical much easier (and - crucially for my case - transcribes and makes it easy to include captions in the video).

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@bjoreman I think Descript is probably the way to go, but I would really like to be able to do the whole thing on my phone or iPad.

When developing for iPhone/iPad, do you differentiate between iOS and iPadOS, or use iOS for both? I can't remember ever saying iPadOS outside the context of complaining about iPad specific on social media.

When developing for either, it's always iOS, and if referring to something specific to the iPad I'll say “the iPad version" or "on the iPad”. I feel like the iPadOS thing never really caught on beyond Apple marketing.

What would be the downside if they just let the Instagram app run on macOS? It would certainly solve all of my issues with live streaming to it or filming Reels.

I hate that so many companies who are never going to make a native Mac app won't let us run their iOS apps on our Apple Silicon Macintosh computers.

harpaa01,
@harpaa01@mastodon.social avatar

@collin my favorite is when they’re like “well we are worried it’ll be a bad experience”

My friend I’ve seen your iOS app. It doesn’t seem like that’s a major concern of yours as it is.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@harpaa01 Correct. The argument I can think of is that it's not worth the support burden, and they don't want to bother testing it. That honestly makes sense to me, but it doesn't make me want it any less as a user.

I think what I really want is for Apple to make an Oura Ring. I'm not as into using a third party device, but the idea of an inconspicuous ring I could wear that would get me all of the Apple Watch health tracking features without the screen or Siri or any of that would be amazing. Especially if the battery life was longer than 24 hours.

jon_alper,
@jon_alper@mastodon.online avatar

@collin I’d be done with the watch if Apple did this.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@jon_alper I might be too. I don't see how it could securely support Apple Pay without a screen, but that would really be the only thing I would miss from Apple Watch if I had all of the health tracking stuff.

Third party apps don't tend to communicate reliably enough with their iOS counterparts and can't keep their complications up to date, so those aren't useful to me. I use the Messages complication, but it's probably more of a distraction than anything.

Okay. It seems like YouTube is the way to go, so here’s that song if you want to hear it. I’ll be posting more covers and originals as I record them. https://youtu.be/Sdko1Jcp15I?si=47C7b3cdRdeNf1wv

Why is that my Elgato capture card would work through the Apple USB-C Multiport Adapter, but not through my Anker hub when there is nothing else plugged into it? I feel like I'm missing something?

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

@mzarra That's what I thought maybe too. It has a PD in port that I'm using. Very strange.

collin,
@collin@ruby.social avatar

I've tried plugging my 140w MacBook Pro charger into the PD-in port of the Anker dock, so if the capture card freezes now, I think that's pretty definitive that this setup isn't going to work.

If you want to hear one of my songs, I posted this one called “Love is the Reason”. It’s a little more country than my others, but I like it. Everything I say in it 100% happened. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7DX6mPrD7i/?igsh=MTJtN2t1azl4dXI2Zw== #musician #songwriter
