@Haste the idea is reasonable. In practice impossible. National service though does not just mean the army but a year of service to the community.approx 1 million 18 year olds each year. The army could only handle a few thousand at most. About 50 percent would be ineligible due to health or fitness, criminal records will exclude more, vetting even more and finally drug testing will eliminate a lot more. Those that get to this stage will do some basic training and then be employed on menial tasks for the rest of the year of their service, you won’t be driving a tank or flying a helicopter in this time period. This is just a headline grabbing gimmick !

@Luisa13 it is a tough balance to strike, personal freedoms against the rights of others to feel safe or comfortable. My belief is people should be free to do what they want as long as it does not harm others but considerations should be given to other people’s comfort and some things should not be conducted in public. The difficulty is who gets to decide these limits ?
