I read some reviews that called Shadows of Darkness the "worst writing of the Quest for Glory series".
Well let me ask you: how many Quest for Glory games will actually make you cry on stream?

Live now with some more Shadows of Darkness, almost at the end now... maybe...

I don't know why this Japanese cover for Bio-Hazard Battle had to go symbolism-hard/1994 dance compilation cd cover but that is all kinds of lovely.

I don't remember exactly how this tangent from last night' stream came about, but I'm happy to report I'm now familiar with the "wed & bred" series of books: a tale as old as time of happy marriage made of flour, yeast and water.

Italian streamer finds out about Franke Love and her marvellous series of books about women who want to be "wed and bred"

Time to go back to Shadows of Darkness, was able to get that rehydration solution so it is time to meet the Domovoi and flirt some more with Katrina (talk about risking your neck...)

I can totally get behind featuring The Secret of Monkey Island on the cover of the May 1991 issue of Italian K Magazine, but man that is not an attractive cover at all.
Also Sim Earth is ready for my nightmares

@mr_creosote normal in Italy mostly yes, I guess it was a matter of saving time/money in this case

@todwest I'll have to someday play some of the Maxis games other than SC/SC2000/3000

@todwest of course I forgot about SimCopter, loved that lil' weird chapter

This page from the Master System manual to Black Belt seems torn out of a page of a generic alt-right party. Okay perhaps except for the wrestlers.
Also many great lines such as "You're Riki, the good guy. Everyone else is the enemy."

It's already happened several times during streams where I play around with Windows 95 that people come in and mention how much better Linux is.
Which feels like commenting "hey MP3s sound way better" on a "history of the Sony Walkman" video

In my awful Windows 95 multimedia stream yesterday, I stumbled upon a "multimedia" children's book where a purple bee harasses and stalks a bee until she (?) agrees to marry him (?). Probably an early form of creepypasta.

Italian stream reacts to a bee stalking a bear who is hiding underneath the bed because she doesn't want to marry him

I keep seeing 40+ gamers on Facebook and other socials complaining that "they don't make games as they used to", while also being nostalgic about games that were definitely far from being perfect or even well-written.
Still, if that's how you feel, then what's your excuse for not trying out Skald today?

damianogerli,
@damianogerli@mastodon.social avatar

@Blackthorn absolutely, they just want to complain they are not interested in doing anything else

damianogerli,
@damianogerli@mastodon.social avatar

@slimehunter overall I'm pretty sure they just don't want to play "new" games, they just want to bitch about how old games were better. I've talked with a few of them and they all stopped playing in the 90s or even before that but for some reason are still around complaining.

I have a folder named "Downloads" where I keep all the stuff I download and I'm using so I don't forget.

Inside that folder, there is one named "old downloads" where previous downloads from my old laptop are stored.

Inside that folder... no, I don't want to think about how deep that rabbit hole goes.

@OutofPrintArchive it's a never ending loop. I'm also scared that one day those external HDDs will give up the ghost and I will be left without files that I haven't looked at for years... but MAYBE... if I looked at them before they were lost... MAYBE...

My car clutch has broken, stranding me in The Midlands, so cheer me up and tell me about your favorite #90s games and why.

damianogerli,
@damianogerli@mastodon.social avatar

@Temmy Rings of Power, 1991 by Naughty Dog (yes that Naughty Dog).
A crazy idea of developing a true open world RPG for an early Mega Drive line-up which no one really seemed to like at the time, but it was the last time ND would work on something they liked as opposed to something the audience would want.

damianogerli,
@damianogerli@mastodon.social avatar

@Temmy the fact that the world feels like a genuine cohesive world, which becomes apparent when looking at the map. When I was 9 years old I could not get it, but compared to other RPG at the time it clearly shows that Andy spent six months working on the map tile by tile. Story and atmosphere was also wacky, both serious and completely stupid.
