Haha yeah. It’s an unfortunate side effect of the fact that animation in the English speaking world is still mostly associated as kids focused entertainment by the broader population.
Well I’m gladly eating crow. Other than some occasional weird CGI this movie was awesome. And I was down on Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth but both of them were awesome.
Grim #17 - Grim has been solid throughout but one of my main criticisms was that the characters weren’t super fleshed out. However character focused interludes like this one really help.
Read a couple of DC stuff today including Wonder Woman #9 which continues be really good.
Man, their run from the 90s to the end of the 2000s is absolutely incredible. Even films like A Bug’s Life and Cars are pretty great. It’s a pity that since then outside of a few films (Inside Out is a personal favourite) it’s been a very uneven filmography at best. I think their decline a few years after Disney’s purchase is very disappointing.
Oh Briar #5 is out. It’s been a year since #4 but I remember liking the first arc. I think the hype for it was kind of killed by the release schedule.
Doom #1 was pretty good but the plot was a little thin. I feel like it was carried insanely hard by the art.
X-Men: Forever #4 - A very important moment for a bunch of main characters that gets some real emotion out of me. Unfortunately it continues to struggle with the incredibly rushed feeling of the Fall of X.
And we’re done. Great episode again. Having an extended final episode was a good choice. I definitely think out of all the episodes, this one had the best pacing of the season. Loved Rogue doing a “Remember It” callback. All the Xavier/Magneto stuff was excellent and the show managed to get me to actually tear up again (for the second time after Gambit’s death) with the goodbye scene in the diner with Cable.
This was a great season. I genuinely did not expect such all around fantastic animation quality when this was first announced. My only minor criticisms ultimately stem from the same underlying issue which is the rapid pacing of most of the episodes which caused some of the plot lines (especially the Storm and Madelyn Pryor ones) to be a little rushed. Other than that the Motendo section, while fun, just seemed out of place. Overall I think this is a great show and am really looking forward to season 2. I read that Rogue’s VA has already finished recording her lines so I hope it doesn’t take multiple years to release.
Haha yup. Xavier is definitely a yapper so I feel for Magneto there. I guess only Xavier could get Magneto to forgo his standard Shakespearean way of talking.
Oh man, please be good. I’m feeling the beginnings of some hype.
Edit: Okay so I actually read the article. Doesn’t seem like Peter Jackson is actually going to be directing (at least not yet). And the first movie is about Gollum . Hype levels have plummeted. I have faith that they’ll try to do their best but man I really hate how they’ve approached this franchise. More and more I think Christopher Tolkein was right when he talked about negative aspects about the mass commercialization of his father’s work.
God the action in this show is so good. They really utilize the medium of animation at its best during those scenes. Loved the Jean and Sinister fight in particular. The character drama is on point as always. My only minor criticism is I do wish they showed a little more the consequences of Magneto’s actions. We see the consequences of the attack on Genosha directly but less so the global EMP. How many millions immediately died from that? Likely including the mutants on Genosha that might be on life support or need supplies that are no longer easily accessible.
Also really appreciate the fact that Bastion’s ideal world basically represents 1950s Americana. That’s so funny and topical.
Dialogue stays winning. The perfect amount of awesome and superhero cheese:
Hi Will, really liked the short film. How long does something like this take to create? I assume it starts with writing a script and then all the way to when it’s ready for release.
