Has anyone here worked much with generators in ?

I am looking for a good solution for streaming outputs in my ollama-elisp-sdk project. I think there's a good angle using generators to make a workflow fairly similar to e.g. the OpenAI API. Not sure yet though.

dliden,

@holgerschurig Thanks! I'm not really going for a repl; there are a few different implementations out there already. I'm more just trying to write an elisp layer over the whole ollama API, so you can more easily use ollama via elisp.

I think the main issue I'm running into is how callbacks work in the url library. I don't yet see how to use url for streaming (and I don't technically have to, I could use curl) because the callback still isn't triggered until the full (streaming) response is complete.

I find #orgmode very useful, but getting org-super-agenda and custom agenda commands to work is almost impossible for me. :-(

dliden,

@jfdm I have always really wanted to make the agenda a useful part of my workflow but I've just never managed to get there. The amount of work to get it to display what I want has always outweighed the benefits I've gotten from it. :-(

Do you all use anything for #elisp formatting in #emacs ?

I started using Emacs ELisp AutoFmt recently have found it pretty nice. I mostly just use elisp-autofmt-region or elisp-autofmt-buffer periodically as I'm working.

dliden,

@sachac I really appreciate these Emacs news posts and have found so much good stuff in them over the years. Thank you!

Starting work tomorrow with external monitor removed, single Laptop screen only. Trying to increase focus time.

Did anyone have success with that approach?

dliden,

@louis Yes! It made me more deliberate about figuring out what I actually needed open and visible in the moment. I previously always had chat/email visible and would consistently get distracted by incoming messages. Checking my communications between rather than during focused work sessions was the biggest improvement for me.

Emacs hooks are very useful and you're almost certainly using them whether you're aware of it or not. They're also not terribly complicated once you understand a few basic things about them. In this post, I introduce the basics of emacs hooks.

Please let me know if you find it useful, if you have any feedback, and if there are any other topics you'd like me to cover in this style.

I went down a long and unproductive rabbit hole trying to get ox-rss to work to generate an RSS feed for my site. No luck. Then I learned about emacs-webfeeder, and about 30 minutes later I had a decent first pass at an RSS feed put together! I still need to make some tweaks, but it's basically what I was going for. Add it to your feed for occasional writing on emacs and occasionally machine learning.

I'm a relatively new #developeradvocate. People who have been doing this for a while—any tips or resources?

dliden,

@louis I think it means different things at different places. In my role, it's kind of a bridge between the in-house and open-source developers. Supporting open-source contributors is a big part of it. Also generally being in tune with the developer experience of using the product(s); being able to support and speak to the needs of devs.

I think a big part of it is actually having dev experience, so you can speak with some authority and as a peer rather than as a marketing or sales person.

Has anyone here used ox-rss to set up an RSS feed on their site? I'm planning to try on my site this weekend. I think this guide basically covers what I want to do: https://writepermission.com/org-blogging-rss-feed.html

dliden,

@grtcdr I'm getting to the same point after working on this for a few hours this morning. I looked at how a few other org sites do it, and it seems like I'm following a similar approach, but no luck getting it to work.

dliden,

@grtcdr This is what the System Crafters site uses (cc @daviwil) —my next step is seeing if I can get this working. ox-rss has been a headache.

I did a modest redesign of my personal website (made with emacs/org mode). It is always a work in progress and I have a long list of future changes. But in the couple of years of using ox-publish instead of a more sophisticated framework, I've been very happy with how easy it is to understand how all the pieces fit together and how to make changes.

dliden,

@louis Thanks! I like it too, but it still needs some work to handle different screen sizes and keep the rows of photos nicely aligned. Big area for future improvement.
