I'm afraid no one will get what they want from all that "AI" craze.
Techbros will not get an AI-filled world they want.
But anti-AI folks like me will also not get back a world without AI they want.
It will not prosper, but it will not fail miserably like "metaverse" did - It will become yet another mundane thing that sometimes get technically better, and usually becomes more evil in the process, but no one will bat an eye because of how mundane it is.
I think it may as well become "autotune" of writers and programmers (not for artists, IMHO), a thing that everyone will be ashamed to admit they are using because it means they are "not the real deal", but most will still use.
It doesn't mean we cannot change anything, but the change to the world at large won't be as drastic as we expect.
There's an air of superiority surrounding the notion of AGI. Like, it will be so objective, and so much smarter than us, it will never make mistakes, yadda-yadda.
I think it's bollocks. Even when we reach conscious AGI (and we probably will, there's nothing ultimately special about our minds), yeah, it will be smarter than me and you, and probably everyone, but as for objectivity and infallibility part... I genuinely think it will be as confused and clumsy as we are.
Because making mistakes and fucking up is baked directly into intelligence and consciousness. It's how it becomes its own thing. It's called subjectivity, because there's a subject in there, with agency - and that's what we want to achieve. So... I would not trust it any more than I can trust any other intelligent being.
There's a difference between "being conservative" and "being a conservative".
The former meaning "honouring traditions and customs" or just "generally sticking to time-proven solutions, to what works", and the latter meaning "behaving like a reactionary jingoistic twat".

I've been contemplating my heel-face turn from a pessimistic edgelord to a proudly, albeit cautiously, optimistic person.
And it's not self-deceit. It's not like I've stopped seeing the terrible darkness at the bottom of everything. I just realized, over the years, that dwelling on it gets you nowhere, and it, sure as hell, does as much to help the situation as shouting at an ATM gets you richer.
Pessimism, much like loneliness, is intoxicating and highly addictive. It's poison, it's fucking heroin. It drains your willpower, it lulls you in that insidiously blissful sense of "there's no point an anything, and I'm superior to the plebs around me for seeing it", and "You don't have to do anything, what's the point, you're so clever". It kills you from the inside.
