    @schwa does it remember that though? Did your correction effectively added to the training or it will output the same fluff if you ask again?

    Our hotel overlooks the Shinkansen platform. So obviously Iโ€™ve been transpotting since dawn.

    @schwa curious: did you managed to get all your suitcases in the end?

    @schwa that looks so peaceful! Have you ever felt the need to rent a car when visiting small towns? Can you get by with just local public transport?

    duhanebel,
    @duhanebel@mastodon.online avatar

    @schwa interestingโ€ฆ Iโ€™m asking because we struggled a bit in Hokkaido: trains running twice a day, taxis only taking cash and no way to call for one once we reached some remote view point onto the ocean. Had to walk back to the town, find a 7eleven that had an atm that accepted international cards and then go to the train station to wait for a taxi. It was a fun afternoon ๐Ÿ˜…. We had to rent a car/driver to go explore places like the shirogane blue pond though.

    a sad but innocuous result of digitizing all the things is no more passport stamps

    little kid meโ€™s dreams of full passport books are dead ๐Ÿชฆ I always ask the officer for a stamp whenever I travel and they just laugh now :(

    @shortridge what? Really? Since when? I just got a stamp leaving Italy.. but weโ€™re usually 5-10 years behind down thereโ€ฆ

    In the lab, doing stuff with a 1970s turntable. Delicate mechanics still scare me a bit. #VintageAudio #VintageHifi #Recordplayer #Turntable #InTheLabDoingStuff

    @janbeta wow so advanced! My turntable doesnโ€™t have a pcb!

    @duhanebel@mastodon.online avatar

    @janbeta thorens td-160. One of the best turntables in the early 70s. This one is marked 1974 and still works flawlessly. The motor takes the timing from the mains and the switch between 33/45rpm is purely mechanical. You canโ€™t have blown capacitors if you donโ€™t have capacitors!

    chinese character etymology joke dot png

    [the character for โ€œswimโ€ contains, separately, both the full and shorthand forms of the character for water]

    @paul why all that RAM on a NAS? ZFS?

    duhanebel,

    @paul Thatโ€™s always a good reason ๐Ÿ˜….. but do you end up using all of it?

    Seems like a good lightning deal for a plug and play mini PC. I'm a sucker for dual NICs on these things. Fingerprint reader, Win 11 pro license, WiFi/BT if you are into those sorts of features.

    @paul what about an used hp elitedesk 800 mini g2 or g3 off eBay?

    duhanebel,
    @duhanebel@mastodon.online avatar

    @paul g3 comes with display port and an extension port and that can be a second NIC. Theyโ€™re very cheap on eBay. They donโ€™t have a great gpu though - Somehow I automatically assumed you wanted to run a headless cluster of something

    duhanebel,

    @paul rack mount sounds energy hungry though (here the price of electricity went up 2-300% in the past 2 years)

    @paul aah! Right.. makes sense!
